Materials List

  • Clear oval shaped empty glass wine bottle
  • A5 sized gold metallic leather textured cardstock
  • White acrylic paint
  • Rolkem gold dusting powder
  • Mod podge
  • Quick-drying clear matt spray varnish
  • Standard scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Three sponges ~ use ones that were in a medicine bottle

Instructions

  1. Wash the bottle and allow to dry upside down overnight. If necessary, use mineral turpentine to remove any glue residue from where the label was stuck.

  2. Use a sponge and give the bottle an uneven wash with the white paint. Allow to dry thoroughly. Do not paint the bottom of the bottle.

  3. Use the ruler and pencil, and divide the gold metallic leather textured cardstock into 2cm x 1cm rectangles. Remember to draw the pencil lines at the back of the cardstock. Cut the rectangles out.

  4. Use the paintbrush to apply Modge Podge to the back of the first rectangle before pressing it against the bottle. Use your finger (or the back of the paintbrush) to lightly press down all over the rectangle to make it stick.

  5. Continue adding the rest of the rectangles in the same way, and allow to dry. Note: There is no right or wrong shape, or specific amount of rectangles that should be used.

  6. Use the second sponge to add a Modge Podge wash over the whole bottle and allow to dry.

  7. Dip the top of the bottle into the gold dusting powder. Remove and shake off any excess powder. Then, use the third sponge to apply gold dusting powder to certain areas of the bottle.

  8. Spray the bottle with a coat of varnish and allow to dry.
