Recycled Denim Feather Wall Hanging

From the blogger: "Did you know that it is so simple to make feathers out of scraps of denim? Basically, it is just about fraying the denim by pulling out the threads one by one. If you pull out all the white threads, you will end up with an indigo feather. And if you pull out all the blue threads, you will end up with a white feather. I used some twine for the spine of my denim feathers. They were then hung from a lovely driftwood branch to make a gorgeous wall hanging."

Materials List

  • Scraps of denim from old jeans
  • Colored twine
  • Branch
  • Glue
  • Thumb tacks
  • Small wooden beads

This project is so cute! I have some empty wall space in my living room that could use a project like this -- thanks for sharing!

Love this upcycle idea! I definitely have worn out pairs of jeans that would be great for this project.

What a great way to recycle an old pair of jeans or a jean jacket (Yes, they still exist. I have two. You just dont see them much anymore.) I love finding new ways to make feathers for my projects, and this gives me so many ideas. Cutting your feather templates out along a thin seam would help make the feather more resistant to shredding straight across if the glue breaks down over time.
