Halloween is hands down the best holiday. So, if you're tempted to make these Day of the Dead Slip-On Shoes, we don't blame you! These hand-painted shoes are perfect for all of our Halloween-loving crafters. With a pair of plain canvas shoes and some paint, you can easily transform your shoes from ordinary to spooky!

This DIY shoe makeover is easy to follow and accessible to all crafters, no matter your drawing skill. If you're not the best at drawing, don't worry because this tutorial has a printable skull template. You'll love this Day of the Dead shoes DIY so much that you'll want to wear them year-round.

Materials List

  • DecoArt® Stylin™ in Aqua, Fuchsia, Black, White, Red, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Purple
  • Vans® White Slip-Ons
  • Pencil
  • Small paintbrush
  • Masking tape

Instructions

  1. Using the pattern provided, lightly sketch out the sugar skull and stripes with a pencil on the face of the shoes.

  2. Fill in the main area of the sugar skulls with Aqua and Fuchsia using a small brush. (Take your time!)

  3. Paint the Black and White stripes around the skulls. (If you need to, use some masking tape to help keep the lines straight.)

  4. Carefully fill in the heart details with Aqua on the Pink skull and Red on the Aqua skull.

  5. Paint the inside of the eyes in Green. Paint the dots on the forehead and the scallops around the eyes in Yellow. Paint the raindrops under the eyes in Orange on the Aqua skull and Purple on the Fuchsia skull. Add more teardrops in the hearts and dots around the eyes and inside of the scallops in Purple. Finish off with tiny teardrops in Fuchsia on the Aqua skull and let dry.
