Denim and Lace Flip Flops

Denim and Lace Flip Flops

Embellish your generic flip flops with denim and lace.  These Denim and Lace Flip Flops from Amanda Formaro take your summer sandals to new heights, and recycled denim crafts like this are perfect for helping you clear out your closet!  Take a walk on the wild side with these fun and feminine flip flops.

Flip flops are super inexpensive and great for craft projects! You can usually pick up a pair for under $5.00 and embellish to your heart's content. With this pair, I used some recycled denim from old jeans I've been saving.  This particular pair of jeans had been dyed purple, so I chose purple flip flops. You can use whatever color you like.

Materials:

  • Pair of flip flops
  • Denim
  • Lace doily or lace
  • Scissors
  • E6000 adhesive
  • Marker

Instructions:

  1. Cut denim into rectangles big enough to drape over the top of your flip flops and cover the straps. Turn the flip flop upside down and use a marker to trace the outline of the straps.

  2. Cut around the marker line, leaving about an inch all the way around the marker line. Use scissors to clean up the edges, rounding them as you go.

  3. Cut the outer edge of the doily off. If using lace, cut enough to cover the full length of the shoe's straps.

  4. To fray the edges of the denim, use scissors to add small snips all the way around. It helps to loosen the fabric allowing you to fray more easily. You can fray it by pulling at strands with your fingers. I also found it helpful to drag the edge of the scissors along the fabric.

  5. Position your lace along the center of the denim and glue in place with E6000.

In my quest to find ways to repurpose a pile of denim material I have accumulated, I come across these flip flops. I would never have thought of covering those funky little sandals with my old jeans! I wonder if I could also replace the whole strap with just the denim? Wouldn't it make those flip flops even more comfortable?

So you take a crochet doily, which can't be made on a machine and necessited hours of work to complete, and you cut it in pieces? Would you be pleased if I destroyed your flip-flops to make confetti? Because what you've done is about as thoughtful as that. Rating wants me to give you at least a star, unfortunately.

It broke my heart to see that you cut up that beautiful old doily to make your flipflops.

love em!
