Colorful Stripe Vest
This vest knitting pattern from Patons can be used to make a colorful striped garment for a man or woman. Knit a long or short version based on your tastes.

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Note: When working from Chart, carry colors when not in use loosely across WS of work but never over more than 5 sts. When it must pass over more than 5 sts, weave it over and under color in use on next st or at center point of sts it passes over. The colors are never twisted around one another.
LONG VERSION
BACK
**With MC and smaller needles cast on 106 (118-126-134) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing for 1½ ins [4 cm] ending on a 2nd row and inc 5 sts evenly across last row. 111 (123-131-139) sts.
Change to larger needles and work Char t in stocking st to end of chart reading knit rows from right to left and pur l rows from left to right.**

Cont in pat until work from beg measures 16¼ (16¾-17-17) ins [41.5 (42.5-43-43) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.

Pin garment pieces to measurements and using a steam iron, press lightly with a damp cloth leaving to dry on garment pieces.
Button and Buttonhole Band: Sew shoulder seams. With RS of work facing, MC and circular needle pick up and knit 113 (119-125-125) sts up right front edge to first front dec and 51 (56-58-61) sts up right front neck edge. Knit across 35 (37-37-39) sts from back st holder dec 1 st at center.
Pick up and knit 51 (56-58-61) sts down left front neck edge to first front dec and 113 (119-125-125) sts down left front edge. 362 (386-402-410) sts.
Do not join. Working back and forth across needle, proceed as follows:
Beg on a 2nd row, work 3 rows in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back.
Her Version: 4th row: Rib across 3 sts. *Cast off 2 sts. Rib across 16 (17- 18-18) sts (including st on needle after cast off ). Rep from * 5 times more. Cast off 2 sts. Rib to end of row.

Beg on a 2nd row, work 7 rows in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back. Cast off in ribbing.
Sew side and armband seams. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
Press seams.
SHORT VERSION
BACK
Work from ** to ** as given for Back of Long Version.
Cont in pat until work from beg measures 14¾ (14¾-15-15) ins [37.5 (37.5-38-38) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements and press lightly with a damp cloth leaving to dry on garment pieces.
