Clothespin Santa and Rudolph

These are such cute Christmas crafts from The New Image Group. Using clothespins, google eyes and felt you can have cute little friends. These make for great gifts for the holiday season as well as decorations.

  • 2 1" Doll Heads/Knobs
  • Wood Paint (Brown, Red)
  • 19 x 12 White Soft Felt Sheet
  • 19 x 12 Red Soft Felt Sheet
  • 19 x 12 Cocoa Soft Felt Sheet
  • 4 1" Clothespins
  • Paintbrush
  • Craft Glue
  • 2 1/8" Diameter Google Eyes
  • 2 3/8" Diameter Google Eyes
  • 1 1" Square Block
  • 1 3/4" Spool

  1. Paint your pieces: With the brown paint, paint the 1 3/4" Spool, 1 1" Doll Head/Knob and the 4 1" Clothespins. With red paint, paint the 1 1" Square Block
  2. Making Santa: Take unpainted 1" Doll Head/Knob (this will be Santa's face) and glue 1/8" google eyes to it. Using red paint, paint on tiny circles for his rosy cheeks.

  3. From White Soft Felt, cut out: Wavy Rick Rack piece from 12" side of felt for body and hat trim, small 1/2" long piece for moustache, 1" x 3/4" Beard piece and the small ball for top of hat.

  4. From Red Soft Felt, cut out: Small Semi-Circle to create Santa's Hat. Ours is 2" long by 1" tall.

  5. Glue moustache and beard to Santa's face.

  6. Glue one end of rick rack piece to back of Santa's body. Apply glue and wrap along top. Trim remainder off.

  7. Repeat previous step for bottom part of Santa.
  8. Glue Santa's head to body.
  9. To construct Santa's hat: Glue remaining rick rack piece onto the circular portioin of the hat.

  10. Bring hat together along flat side and glue in place.

  11. Glue white ball on top of hat.
  12. Glue hat onto Santa's head.
  13. Making Rudolph: Cut out the following pieces from Soft Felt Sheets: Cocoa: Antlers (Ours measure about 1" x 1 1/4") and Red: 1/2" Diameter Circle
  14. Glue 4 1" Clothespins to 3/4" Spool. Make sure that it will stand correctly before letting set in place.

  15. Glue 2 3/8" Diameter google eyes and red nose onto Brown 1" Doll Head/Knob.

  16. Glue antlers to top of Rudolph's head.

  17. Once clothespins have dried, glue finished head to spool.

The Santa looks like a Jack-in-the-box. Cute.

@tazbea 0163829 and staceyhaggerty 2507215: Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention. I have updated the pattern and it should read correctly now. Thanks again! -- Editor of

@garden lady - it is a spacing typo :) should be 2 one inch balls and 4 one inch clothespegs. hope this helps! looks like a great craft :)

The list of materials is wrong. It says the doll heads are 21" and the clothes pins are 41". Could you please correct this with the right sizes? I want to make these for the holidays. Thank you, The Garden Lady

i love these projects! especially the rudolph. we are exchanging homemade ornaments for our dirty santa this year .i was trying to think of something for my husband to fix that would be kinda manly! All of our men love to hunt so I thought this would be perfect for him. ALL of the instructions were clear and easy to follow.
