I am happy that there are notes for this vintage rose crochet hat to make it in adult sizes. I love the look and because it was not modeled on a person I just only hope that the finished result will be what I am hoping it will be. I love the mint green and pink but I am thinking of a navy blue or fall orange.

The pattern for this vintage rose crochet hat yields a really attractive piece of head gear. I have to admit if is more appropriate for the spring and summer months and that time has passed. This will have to be added to my saved folder until the warm weather rears its head once again.

I learned to crochet last week and I made three little girls purses. they were "off the top of my head" in otherowords, I don;t know yet about patterns,. so, I'm reading the comments and I see a couple of difficulties some were having. however, I didn't see the answers.....I would think the answers would be beneficial to everyone. I'm guessing you answer on their email..?? my friend will help me but, it would be so easy to pull up this page and read the answers when we run into a situation right at that very moment so we could continue at that time, rather than waiting to find it on our email....sorry for whining, I'm just so excited, I'm beside myself and crocheting constantly.....(we're retired and hubby is off fishing... you understand:):) thanks samm

I had a lot of trouble when making the mock up hat. The math didn't come out right. I either didn't have enough stitches or I had too many. I don't know what changed, but I've finished my first hat and didn't have any problems whatsoever following the instructions. All I can say is COUNT, COUNT, COUNT. Make sure you read the abbreviations and are interpreting them correctly. If all else fails, follow the graph. For adding the beads, pick 14-16 beads, color of your choice, but make sure they have large holes so that you can string them before you start your hat. When you get to the two bottom rows, bring up one bead at every picot and continue crocheting. Make sure that you get SEED BEADS. You don't need anything as big as pony beads. I bought TOHO SEED BEADS with large holes.

Showing the diagram is great. Many years ago when we were stationed in Japan, I wanted to learn how to crochet. I bought some Japanese crochet books. They were in Japanese (of course) but they also had diagrams for each project. After figuring out what they were, it was easy.

I was wondering if you all checked your gauge and made a gauge swatch before making the hat. That usually lets you know that you need to adjust yarn or needle size to get the correct size.

I used Patons Grace yarn and used a #3 hook with a loose stitch because I don't have a #2 hook. The gauge came out perfect! :)

Love that you included a diagram! I find it so much easier to follow a diagram than written instructions. Of course I do read all through the instructions first, then just follow the diagram! I used to subscribe to Magic Crochet and Decorative Crochet magazines because all their patterns had diagrams, it's a shame they stopped publishing them! Sure do miss them!
