Easy Shortcut for Making Soap
For an easy shortcut for soap gift-giving, purchase a few bars of cheap, plain soap at the supermarket. Shave the soap into small pieces, melt, and add in special touches such as color, oatmeal, fresh herbs, honey, glitter, or scent. You can use special molds for interesting shapes. I purchased some bars of generic soap, melted it down, and mixed in oatmeal and honey. This mixture is very good for sensitive skin and I gave a couple bars to my mother for Christmas. You can also purchase melt and pour soap bases.

Melt N Pour soap is a lot of fun to play with. Make soap petals and leaves for guest bathrooms using silk flowers and leaves. Use one and toss it away. I purchased some pretty snowman fabric where they were in circles and cut them out to make guest soap. All you do is melt your favorite melt n pour soap (Hobby Lobby) and dip your petal or leaf into the melted soap and shake off excess. Lay on waxed paper to harden. You can use fragrances to match your petals or leaves and when hardened package in plastic bags or containers. These make great gifts and are enjoyed by all especially the children. Just another way to get them to wash their hands.

Plain Melt & Pour soap is pretty cheap. Usually around 3.00 for 2lbs. It is a lot cheaper then plain soap at my grocery store. . .

In the Easy Shortcut for making soap, it was mentioned that plain soap was purchased at the supermarket. What kind of plain soap? I looked for a generic soap but couldn't find any. So, what is recommended? Thank you, Ann

speaking of soap heres one I made years ago, 6lbs of bacon fat one container of lye and wood ashes, cooked over a wood fire in the back yard in an old fireplace used for summer cook outs. pour into a shoe box when it gets thick and let cool, soap made this way needs to be made in the fall when the weather is getting cool otherwise it will not set, this is a good hand soap for the shop. it's messy but lots of fun. Ggm

I melt my soap base in the microwave in a pyrex measuring cup makes it easy to pur then. You can also use a double boiler.

I loved the idea about the kool aid, i use left over broken crayons and the kool aid is easier on the nails, I hate tearing off the paper around the crayons.
