Knitting Needle Size6 or 4 mm

Materials:

  • Bernat Satin (100 g/3.5 oz;182 m/200 yds)
    • Contrast A Evergreen () 1  
    • Contrast B Fern (04222) 1  
    • Contrast C Crimson (04705) 1  
  • Size 4 mm (U.S. 6) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Pair of size 4 mm (U.S. 6) double-pointed knitting needles for I-cord. 4 ins [10 cm] of ¼ inch [.5 cm] wide elastic.

Abbreviations:

  • Inc = Increase(ing)
  • K1tbl = Knit next stitch through back of loop
  • k2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together.
  • psso = pass slipped stitch over
  • RS = right side
  • Sl1 = Slip next stitch knitwise.
  • ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.
  • st(s) = stitch(es)

Instructions:

  1. LEAF (make 2 with A and 1 with B).
     
  2. Cast on 2 sts.
     
  3. 1st row:(RS). Inc 1 st in first st. K1. 3 sts.
     
  4. 2nd row:P3.
     
  5. 3rd row:(K1. M1) twice. K1. 5 sts.
     
  6. 4th row:P5.
     
  7. 5th row:K2. M1. K1. M1. K2. 7 sts.
     
  8. 6th row:P7.
     
  9. 7th row:Cast off 2 sts. K5 (including st on needle after cast off).
     
  10. 8th row:Cast off 2 sts. P3 (including st on needle after cast off).
     
  11. 9th to 12th rows:As 3rd to 6th rows.
     
  12. 13th row:K3. M1. K1. M1. K3. 9 sts.
     
  13. 14th row:P9.
     
  14. 15th row:Cast off 2 sts. K7 (including st on needle after cast off).
     
  15. 16th row:Cast off 2 sts. P5 (including st on needle after cast off).
     
  16. 17th row:K2. M1. K1. M1. K2. 7 sts.
     
  17. 18th row:P7.
     
  18. 19th row:K1. K2tog. K1. ssk. K1. 5 sts.
     
  19. 20th row:P5.
     
  20. 21st row:K1. Sl1. K2tog. psso. K1. 3 sts.
     
  21. 22nd row:P3.
     
  22. 23rd row:Sl1. K2tog. psso. Fasten off (bottom point of Leaf).
     
  23. Berries (make 3)
     
  24. With C, cast on 1 st.
     
  25. 1st row:(RS). (K1. P1. K1tbl) all in st. 3 sts.
     
  26. 2nd row:P3.
     
  27. 3rd row:(K1. M1) twice. K1. 5 sts.
     
  28. 4th row:P5.
     
  29. 5th row:K1. Sl1. K2tog. psso. K1. 3 sts.
     
  30. 6th row:P3.
     
  31. 7th row:Sl1. K2tog. psso. Fasten off.
     
  32. Tie yarn ends at beg and end of work tog tightly on WS to make ‘berry’ shape.
     
  33. I-Cord
     
  34. With A and pair of double-pointed needles, cast on 5 sts.
     
  35. Next row:K5. Do not turn. Slide sts to other end of needle.
     
  36. Rep last row (i-cord) until cord measures 4 ins [10 cm].
     
  37. Cast off.
     
  38. Finishing
     
  39. Insert elastic through I-cord and adjust to 3 ins [7.5 cm] long.
     
  40. Sew ends of elastic tog securely. Sew cast on and cast off edges of I-cord tog.
     
  41. With A or B, embroider Leaves as shown down center of Leaf using outline stitch. Attach Leaves and Berries to I-cord as shown in picture.
