Beautiful Chevron Pillows and Afghan

MEASUREMENTS
Afghan: Approx 42 x 47 ins [106.5 x 119 cm].
Pillows: Approx 18 ins [45.5 cm] square.

MATERIALS

  • Bernat® Harmony
  • (Solids: 100 g/3.5 oz / Ombres: 80 g/2.8 oz)
  • Afghan (Pillow A-Pillow B)
  • Main Color (MC) (Light Purple) 6 (2-2) balls
  • Contrast A (Ombre) 4 (0-4) balls
  • Contrast B (Purple) 0 (2-0) balls

Sizes 10 mm (U.S. 15) knitting needles and 10 mm (U.S. 15) circular knitting needle 24 ins [61 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge. 2 pillow forms 18 inch [45.5 cm] square.

GAUGE
7 sts and 6 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in Lace pat with 2 strands tog.
8 sts and 12 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st with 2 strands tog.

Steps:
Afghan
Lower Border: With circular needle and 2 strands of A, cast on 73 sts.
1st row: K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row. This row forms seed st pat.
Work 4 rows more in seed st pat, ending with WS facing for next row.
Next row: Purl, inc 6 sts evenly across. 79 sts. Break A.

Body of Afghan: Join 2 strands of MC and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). K1. (K2tog. yfwd) 19 times. K1. (yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso) 19 times. K1. 79 sts.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row: (K2tog. yfwd) 19 times. K3. (yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso) 19 times.
4th row: Purl.
Rep last 4 rows until work from beg measures approx 45 ins [114.5 cm], ending with 4th row of pat. Break MC.

Upper Border: Next row: With 2 strands of A, knit, dec 6 sts evenly across. 73 sts.
Work 5 rows in seed st, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off loosely in pat.

Side Border:With RS of work facing, 2 strands of A and beg at bottom right corner, pick up and knit 91 sts up right side of Afghan.
Work 5 rows in seed st, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off loosely in pat.
Rep for other side.

Tassels: (make 4) Cut a piece of cardboard 4½ ins [11 cm] wide. Wind MC around cardboard 25 times. Break yarn leaving a long end and thread end through a needle. Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly. Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops ¾ inch [2 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly. Attach tassels to corners of Afghan.

Pillow A
FRONT
With 2 strands of A, cast on 23 sts.
Proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 11 ins [28 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Break A.

Chevron border: Join 2 strands of MC and proceed as follows:
1st row: Inc 1 st in first st. Knit to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K1. 25 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K2. yfwd. (K2tog. yfwd) 5 times. K1. (yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso) 5 times. yfwd. K2. 27 sts.
5th row: K2. yfwd. (K2tog. yfwd) 5 times. K3. (yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso) 5 times. yfwd. K2. 29 sts.
7th row: K2. yfwd. (K2tog. yfwd) 6 times. K1. (yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso) 6 times. yfwd. K2. 31 sts.
8th row: Purl. Cast off knitwise.
With RS of work facing, 2 strands of MC and beg at lower right corner, pick up and knit 25 sts up right side of pillow.
Rep 2nd to 8th rows of chevron border.
Cast off knitwise.
Rep for lower edge and left side.
Using a flat seam, sew chevron border tog at corners.

BACK
With 2 strands of A, cast on 31 sts.
Work in stocking st until work from beg measures 16 ins [40.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

FINISHING
Sew 3 sides of pillow. Insert pillow form. Sew last side.

Tassels: Work as given for tassels of Afghan, substituting A for MC. Attach tassels to corners of Pillow.

Pillow B
FRONT
With 2 strands of B, cast on 23 sts.
1st row: K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
This row forms seed st pat.
Cont in seed st pat until work from beg measures 11 ins [28 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Break A.

Chevron Border: Work as given for chevron Border for Pillow A.

BACK
With 2 strands of B, cast on 29 sts. Work in seed st pat until work from beg measures 16 ins [40.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off in pat.

FINISHING
Work as given for Pillow A.

Tassels: Work as given for Tassels of Afghan, substituting B for MC. Attach tassels to corners of Pillow.
