This rainbow crochet blanket is so stunning. Choose your favorite color and work in stripes of rainbow yarn to create a vividly colorful afghan for your living room. This is a fantastic crochet gift option as well because you can make these blankets in your loved ones' favorite colors and still have that added colorful detail with the rainbow stripes. They're perfect to customize to different people and different occasions. You can even make a smaller version for baby blankets in blue, pink, or yellow! Make a gorgeous crochet rainbow project with this pattern.


Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet GaugeGauge is not critical for this project.

Finished SizeAbout the size of a twin bed.

Materials List

  • 3 Skeins of Red Heart Mexicana Yarn
  • 6 Skeins of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in solid color of your choice
  • Size H crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle to weave in ends


ch 132.

  1. Row 1: in the second ch from the hook, sc. Then sc in each chain across (130 sts).

  2. Row 2: ch 1. sc in the second chain from the hook. dc in the same st. Skip the next st. Repeat (sc and dc in the same st, skip the next st) across.

  3. Rows 3-12: rep row 2.

    These stitches comprise the entire afghan. Color changes indicated in subsequent rows.

  4. Rows 13-15: switch to Mexicana (rainbow) yarn.

  5. Rows 16-18: switch to solid color.

  6. Rows 19-21: switch to rainbow color.

  7. Rows 22-24: solid color.

  8. Rows 25-27: rainbow color.

  9. Rows 28-38: solid color.

  10. Rows 39-41: rainbow color.

  11. Repeat rows 2-41 until blanket is near desired length.

  12. Finish with 11 rows of solid color to match start of afghan.

I have not tried this one yet, but it is on my must make list. I love the bright bold colors and so have to find the Red Heart Mexicana Yarn. I have not seen it yet but will be looking for it, because it so makes this blanket. This is a very easy pattern to whip up and looks so good. It will make a great gift or even on to keep.
