How To Paint A Butterfly Rock
From the designer: "This is a painted rock tutorial. Anyone can paint a rock using the many stencils available today and that is what I will teach in this article. Painting rocks can be a relaxing hobby for one person or the entire family can join in the fun! I will explain step by step how to use stencils to get great images onto rocks using the traditional stenciling way by tapping the paint through the openings or by simply tracing the outline of the stencil shape onto the rock and painting with markers. So I hope you will join me for this painted rock tutorial. I know you will have fun! "Be creative and be happy" - nancymaggielee"

Instructions
-
Gather supplies.
-
Paint the surface of the rock with white acrylic paint at least two times and allow it to dry completely before moving to the next step.
-
Place your stencil onto the surface of your rock and using a stencil brush and the acrylic paint color you have chosen, stencil the image onto the rock. If you watch the video below it will give you a general idea of how to stencil...(please see video on blog post entitled "How to Stencil Flowers onto a Rock")
-
You may want to outline your flowers and butterfly with permanent ink Sharpie Ultra Fine Black marker.
-
Using a thin paint brush and Mod Podge, go over the painted parts of the flowers and butterflies trying to avoid the Sharpie outlines as the black ink might smear onto the colored paints. Let the Mod Podge areas dry completely.
-
Now go over the whole surface of the painting with Mod Podge and if the black ink smears it will easily be wiped off of the images that have already been protected by the Mod Podge.
-
After all the Mod Podge dries, spray rock with Acrylic sealer in a well ventilated area.
-
Enjoy your beautiful rock painting!
