MATERIALS

SIZES
Approx 10 x 12 ins [25 x 30.5 cm]

TENSION
15 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

ABBREVIATIONS
C2F = slip next st onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. K1, then K1 from cable needle.
C2B = slip next st onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. K1, then K1 from cable needle.
C6B = slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.
C6F = slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at front of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.
yf Sl1P yb = with yarn in front, slip next st purlways, then bring yarn to back.
yb Sl1P yf = with yarn in back, slip next st purlwise, then bring yarn to front.

INSTRUCTIONS
FRONT
Cast on 48 sts.
**1st row: (RS). (K1. P1) 4 times. P1. K1. P1. C2B. C2F. P1. K1. P1. K12. P1. K1. P1. C2B. C2F. P1. K1. P1. (K1. P1) 4 times.
2nd and alt rows: (P1. K1) 4 times. K1. P1. K1. P4. K1. P1. K1. P12. K1. P1. K1. P4. K1. P1. K1. (P1. K1) 4 times.
3rd row: (K1. P1) 4 times. P1. K1. P1. C2F. C2B. P1. K1. P1. C6B. C6F. P1. K1. P1. C2F. C2B. P1. K1. P1. (K1. P1) 4 times.
5th row: As 1st row.

Rep last 8 rows 6 times more, then 1st to 4th rows once. Cast off.

BACK
Cast on 48 sts.
Work from ** to ** as given for Front 7 times. Cast off.

FLAP
Cast on 48 sts.
Work from ** to ** as given for Front 4 times, then 1st to 4th rows once. Cast off.

STRAP
Cast on 8 sts.
1st row: (WS) *K1. yf Sl1P yb. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
2nd row: *P1. yb Sl1P yf. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 68 ins [172.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

FINISHING
Sew Flap to Back. Sew ends of Strap tog. Placing ends at center bottom, sew Strap to sides and lower edge of Front and Back.
Twisted cord: Cut 2 strands of yarn 6 ins [15 cm] long. With both strands tog hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel.
The strands will now twist themselves together. Adjust length if desired. Sew to center of flap as illustrated. Sew toggle in position.

This bag would be nice for carrying a tablet and some papers. It looks very nice, not too homemade, except maybe the edge of the flap which looks a little rough in the photo. Perhaps a pretty cast on/cast off method would improve this aspect.

I think this is cute.
