    Thanksgiving Crafts: Outdoor Decor

Decorate the outside of your house for autumn or Thanksgiving with one of these great crafts.

Wreaths- String oranges or seasonal kumquats onto a ring of sturdy wire with evergreen garland or laurel leaves. Or, add features such as kumquats, pomegranates, and apples to a purchased grapevine wreath. Long curls of orange and lemon peel make for an interesting and fragrant touch. You can even crochet a Thanksgiving Wreath like the one below.

Picture Frames on the Door- Sick of wreaths? Take a flat front, wood picture frame (this will work best for affixing items). Paint or leave the frame the original wood color. Decorate the frame with falls leaves, pinecones, twigs, and even peacock feathers and hang it from the top of the door from a pretty, wide ribbon.

Rusty Buckets- Fill old, rusted buckets with small pumpkins, Indian corn, bundles of twigs, gourds, and fall flowers. Wrap autumn-colored ribbons around the buckets or just enjoy the antique look.

Window boxes- If you don’t have empty window boxes, you can also use painted windowboxes as decoration on each side of a door. Fill them partially with sand and insert bundles of wheat or oats, so that they stand up. The birds will love these.

Pumpkins- Keep those pumpkins from Halloween and turn them into Thanksgiving décor. For a cute activity to do with kids, turn the pumpkin into a turkey. Cover the design from your Halloween jack-o-lantern with a brown construction paper circle. Add eyes, a yellow triangle for the beak and red waddle hanging off the circle. Cut out big feathers in red, yellow, and orange and glue to the back of the pumpkin.
