    This colorful Christmas tree skirt from Patons is a great way to bring bright colors into your holiday color palette. This beginner knitting pattern uses felting techniques to obtain this classic and long-lasting festive look.

    MATERIALS

    • Patons® Classic Wool (100 g/3.5 oz)
    • Main Color (MC) (red) 7 balls
    • Contrast A (green) 6 balls
    • Contrast B (gold) 6 balls
    • Contrast C (purple) 6 balls
    • 5 buttons.
      HAND-KNIT VERSION:
    • Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 6) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension.
      MACHINE-KNIT VERSION:
    • Bulky gauge knitting machine.

    MEASUREMENT
    37 ins [94 cm] diameter.

    TENSION
    Hand-knit version: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.
    Machine-knit version: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with approx dial 2• machine knitting tension.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    PANEL: (Make 3 in each color)
    Cast on 94 sts.

    HAND-KNIT VERSION
    Proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 30 ins [76 cm]. Cast off.

    MACHINE-KNIT VERSION
    Work 198 rows even. Cast off.

    FELTING: Machine wash 3 panels in each color seperately using hot water and long cycle (approx 10 to 15 mins). Add a towel for agitation to get best results. Rinse and spin in warm water. Lay flat to dry.
    Cut out sections following Diagram 1. Sew panel seams tog with MC and overcast st, alternating colors as illustrated leaving 1 seam open. Work blanket st with MC around outer edges.
    Attach buttons with loops to close open seam.
