Materials List

Peacock Feathers (25 to 50 pieces)
Ostrich Feathers (1 to 2 dozen, Prime Selected Plumes or 1 quarter pound #2 quality to get great value)
Marabou Boa (1 to 4 pieces) Note: Choose your own colors: The Feather Place carries a wide variety of colors in Peacock, Ostrich and Marabou Boas.
Cardboard
Felt
Elastic OR Stretchy Ribbon
Hot Glue

Instructions

Cut an oval out of cardboard for the base of the peacock tail. You can adjust the size for the wearer, but this child size version is about 10 X 5 inches.
Glue on the shoulder straps made of matching elastic. We’ve used some sequined elastic here.
Glue down the first row of Peacock Feathers, making an elegant fan shape. We’ve trimmed our feathers down a bit, but you could leave them long for a very dramatic effect.
Now comes the second row of Peacock Feathers. Arrange these feathers slightly lower, filling the gaps in the first row.
Now add a layer of felt over the Peacock stems. This will make the costume more comfortable to wear.
Flip the entire piece over and begin gluing down a row of Ostrich Feathers. The Ostrich Feathers fill in the gaps and make the whole tail look nice and full!
To finish the tail, cover the cardboard back with a Marabou Boa. Starting from the outside of the cardboard, spiral around the shape, gluing down as you go.
You now have a truly sensational peacock tail. There are lots of options to complete this costume; pair the tail with a dress (we added a Marabou Boa to ours!) or a matching leotard. Add extra feathers to any accessory to make a striking headband or an eye-popping necklace!
