Christmas Dreaming Mini Tree

Bring a little holiday cheer to any room with this Christmas Dreaming Mini Tree.  Decorated with simple reminders of the season, including bows, ornaments, angels, and even Santa Claus himself, this decorated mini Christmas tree is a great way to add a festive touch to your office, bedroom, or living room.  This is also a great way to use up various odds and ends in your Christmas box, from leftover gift embellishments to festive buttons and baubles.

Materials:

  • Polystyrene cone
  • Roll of light lime green twine (approximately 50m of twine)
  • Golden star mounted on pin
  • Miniature flat-sided wooden Christmas ornaments (for this project, 2 gingerbread men, 3 angels and 3 Christmas Fathers were used)
  • 5 small fabric bows
  • Small round 10mm multi-faceted colorless beads
  • Sewing pins with colored heads
  • Polystyrene glue
  • Super glue
  • Spray & Sparkle Gold Glitter Varnish
  • Old newspaper to protect the working area

Instructions:

  1. Spray the cone with the glitter varnish. Remember to work in a well-ventilated area when spraying the varnish. Allow to dry thoroughly.

  2. Add a bit of polystyrene glue to the bottom of the cone, and glue the twine to the cone.
     
  3. Wind the twine in a criss-cross pattern tightly all around the cone.
     
  4. Continue winding the twine all around the cone until you reach the end of the twine.

  5. Press the end of the twine down and use some glue to keep it in place.
     
  6. Push the pin in at the top of the cone to add the star to the top of the tree.

  7. Use super glue to adhere the Christmas ornaments and fabric bows to the tree.

  8. Use the beads to add Christmas baubles to tree pin them to the cone using some of the sewing pins.
     
  9. Add the finishing touches by pinning groups of three colored pins into the cone tree.
