  1. Cut out the top pocket part of the oven mitt. Be sure not to cut into the pocket.

  2. When you get to the end of your pocket leave a 1/2 inch to 1 inch of space from the bottom of the pocket, and then cut and square it off.

  3. Fold your oven mitt in half and round off the edge.

  4. Find a large spot where you have room in these jeans, and using the top part of your oven mitt as a template and cut around so that the round edges are similar. However, leave a good inch longer than the top of your oven mitt for hemming.

  5. For your heat resistant fabric and batting use the top of your oven mitt to cut around it again.

  6. Have the top of your oven mitt (the side with the pocket) bottom up, the batting on your mitt on the pocket side of the mitt with the heat resistant fabric on top and then the bottom of your mitt right side facing the heating fabric.

  7. Before you sew this all together, but a quick hem in, so that the bottom matches the top.

  8. Make a sandwich. On the bottom the heat resistant fabric with the batting side down and the silver side up, then the back of the oven mitt have it down facing right side up, and then have the pocket part of the oven mitt with the right side facing down, and pin this together.

  9. Sew around three sides and leave the hemmed side open.

Tip: It is best to use a heavy duty needle when sewing these kind of projects together.

  10. Clip your seams, cutting in very close,

  11. Make some diagonal cuts so that it goes neatly around the curve. Turn your piece right side out!

  12. Finally, top stich the open section closed and then all the way around the rest of the mitt.

This is a great idea! I feel like I'm always getting rid of or donating old jeans, but what a fun way to reuse. With a certain decorating style, they would be chic too!

Clever! #NationalCraftMonth2017

So cute! You could make matching hot pads as well with the rest of the jeans. #NationalCraftMonth2017
