Learn to Sew a Quilted Mug Rug

Learn how to sew a mug rug with the talented sewist and quilter Marie Segares! Sponsored by our friends at We Like Sewing, this FREE one-hour class is the perfect introduction to basic quilting.

Mug rugs make great gifts while using just a little bit of fabric. In this class, you'll make a simple, quilted mug rug. You'll learn how to do strip piecing; how to square up blocks; and how to turn and finish your mug rug using simple straight-line quilting. Once you have the basics down, you'll be designing your own mug rugs in no time!

-Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies (seam ripper, fabric snips, pins, etc.)
-Rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, and cutting mat
-Iron and iron safe surface
-Hera marker
-Optional: 1/4" piecing presser foot with guide

-5 strips -- each 1-1/2" wide x width of fabric -- in 100% cotton quilting fabric (or 5 strips from a "honey bun" of pre-cut quilting fabric) in coordinating or contrasting fabrics
-Cotton or cotton blend batting - 1 piece cut to 7" x 10"
-100% cotton thread for bobbin and top spool to coordinate, blend, or contrast your fabrics
