Cupcake Punch Needle Kit

The only thing better than free embroidery designs are ones that look like cupcakes!  With this Cupcake Punch Needle Kit, Maria Nerius demonstrates how to make an adorable charm that can be used for a necklace or turned into a brooch.

Materials:

  • Dimensions Life is Sweet - Cupcake punch needle kit
  • Clover locking hoop
  • Clover Embroidery Tool (can be used as a needlepunch tool)
  • Clover Embroider Tool needle threader
  • Assorted small bugle beads
  • Needle with coordinating thread (match to bugle beads)
  • Coordinating cardstock or lightweight suede
  • Fray stop liquid
  • Fabric glue
  • Bail
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. I used the Dimensions kit because it includes all the floss you’ll need to complete 4 cupcake pendants. You can also sketch your own cupcake shape on fabric and use your own selection of floss to create this pendant. The kit was designed to make a frame-able piece, but I choose to use it to create pendants.

  2. Following the instructions in the kit, needle punch the four cupcakes (you don’t want or need to needle punch the entire design). Dab a little of the fray stopping liquid to each ending thread, then when the cupcakes are complete, outline all the edges with the fray stop. This will keep the material and threads from unraveling. Let the fray stop dry completely.

  3. Cut out the cupcake shapes trimming as close as you can to the threads. Color any of the material with a coordinating marker so you will not see any white fabric edges.

  4. Sew bugle beads randomly to the top or frosting part of the cupcakes. The beads will look like sprinkles!

  5. Trace the cupcake shape onto your coordinating cardstock or suede; this will be the backing of the pendant. Apply a thin layer of fabric glue to the backing and then place onto the pendant back. Press smooth, hold down, and then put some eight on top of the pendant for about an hour to keep the pendant flat while the glue dries.

  6. Adhere the bail finding to the back of the cupcake and you have a pendant!

I have done this years ago. It's a very easy craft Once you get the hang of it. You can make beautiful items very fast with the punch. I made baby bibs, some baby tops and even embellishments for purses. Give it a try, it doesn't cost much to get started.
