Recycled Milk Carton Organizers

By: Marti Cooper from
Recycled Milk Carton Organizers

In the Designer's Words: "These recycled milk cartons make your pantry look and feel organized. Fill them with sugar, rice, salt, etc. for easy pouring. This eliminates opened bags in your pantry from spilling out and keeps your pantry organized. FREE labels included!"
Crafters who love creating recycled crafts are going to absolutely fawn over these Recycled Milk Carton Organizers. This recycled craft idea shows you how to clean out, spiff up, and label a recycled milk carton and transform your trash into a useful treasure. Create a container for your dry goods (flour, rice, salt, etc.) by using old milk cartons. These cardboard cartons tuck neatly together into your cupboard, making them easy to store and easy to use. Containers like these DIY organizers would cost upwards of ten dollars in the store and this DIY craft only costs you about an hour of your time.

Recycled Crafts and Storage Ideas: Tips from the Editor

Using recycled materials for crafting is a time-honored tradition. Crafters love being thrifty and creative at the same time. That is probably why this recycled DIY organizer is such a hit with our readers! It is as cute as it is practical. Not all homemade organizers, however, are created equal. Please keep the following in mind before creating recycled crafts that serve as organizers to ensure that your craft not only lasts, but keeps you safe.

  1. Dry goods like flour, sugars, etc. can go into just about any container without spoiling the contents. You should, however, make sure that these containers are completely dry before filling them. Consider letting them sit overnight after a good scrubbing to ensure that they do not cause the ingridients to clump together.
  2. Do not put cleaning supplies (especially harsh chemicals like bleaches and other household solutions that may contain these chemicals) into new containers. These containers were created and designed especially for these products. Moving them into glass, paper, or even another type of plastic can cause them to wear down the material as well as leak.
  3. While storing spices and flours in mason jars or brand new recycled crafts can be fun, be sure to do it properly. If you toss out the original container, make sure to take note of the expiration date as to avoid feeding your family some spoiled products.

Love this, great idea!

What a great idea. Now for me, I would totally use these but then again I am the only one keeping the kitchen in order. I have two boys that will be striking out on there own soon. I wonder if they would take the time to pour the contents into the recycled milk cartons in the first place.

This is the type of project that would be great to give is gifts to people just starting out. Right now, a young couple may not really know what there taste is or budget on the tight side. This would serve its purpose for a short while and could easily be recycled if necessary.

I love these little containers for the holidays because when you have a ton of guests, it can be hard to keep enough of anything on hand for everyone. This will save some time digging out refills and maneuvering around everyone in the kitchen. Plus it is a neat way to make the house look entirely different with something you already have around the house anyway. Saves money and time.

You can also use juice cartons. Just make sure to thoroughly dry it inside. Your bulk condiments must be placed in these boxes. It looks very coordinated especially having those uniform labels. Very resourceful!

I seldom buy milk at the store, but when I do, I will save the cartons now. They would be perfect to keep homemade mixes for things like pancakes and hot chocolate. They would look so neat standing in a row that I'd be tempted to display them instead of tucking them into the pantry!

This is brilliant! I have all of my ingredients and things organized, but I like this especially because it makes them easy to pour.

This is so adorable. Although, I don't think I've seen a milk carton like this in stores. I'll have to use an orange juice container. Either way, it's a great way to keep those pesky ants out of the dry goods.

Very clever. Love this.

This is such a great idea. Also, very nice and informative tips. Thanks!

This idea might be handy for holiday campers /caravaners. Just a thought.

That's a great idea, littleblackducky55 1295862! Thanks for commenting. :) - Kaylee, Editor of

Can the 1/2 gallon plastic milk jugs be cleaned out reused to store similar items in?

Hi SherryD24! As far as I know, plastic jugs would work just as well for this craft so long as you are storing dry items. Hope that helps! -Kaylee, Editor of FaveCrafts
