Granny Gee's Crocheted Pillow Cover

Granny Gee's Crocheted Pillow Cover

 

Materials:

  • (A) Caron, One Pound, (claret) Acrylic worsted weight, 16 oz., 453.6 g
  • (B) Red Heart Super Saver, multi (Williamsburg print) Acrylic, worsted weight medium, 5 oz., 141 g
  • Crochet hook size k - 10.5mm
  • 1 – 17 inch pillow form


Finished Size: 17” x 17”
 

Stitches: (ch) chain stitches, (sc) single crochet stitches, (dc) double crochet stitches, (sl st) slip stitch


Instructions:

Front Part of Pillow Cover (working in rounds)

Beginning ring:  With (B) ch 5, sl st into first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1:  ch 3 counts as first dc, 2 dc into ring, ch 3, *3 dc into ring, ch 3, repeat from * 2 times, sl st in third chain of beginning ch 3.
Rnd 2:  sl st in next 2 dc,  (ch 3, dc - ch 3 - 2 dc) in corner ch 3 space, dc into next 3 dc, *(2 dc - ch 3 - 2 dc) in corner ch 3 space, dc into next 3 dc, Repeat from * around, sl st in third chain of beginning ch 3.
Rnd 3:  sl st in last dc’s over to corner, **chain 3,  (ch 3, dc - ch 3 - 2 dc) in corner ch 3 space, dc into each dc on side section, *(2 dc - ch 3 - 2 dc) in corner ch 3 space, dc into each dc on side section, Repeat from * around, sl st in third chain of beginning ch 3.
After each 3 rnds fasten off yarn and join next color in corner chain.
Continue adding rounds as follows:
Rnd 4: repeat round 3 from **with (A)
Rnd 5 – 6: repeat round 3 with (A)
Rnd 7: repeat round 3 from **with (B)
Rnd 8 – 9: repeat round 3 with (B)
Rnd 10: repeat round 3 from **with (A)
Rnd 11 – 12: repeat round 3 with (A)
Rnd 13: repeat round 3 for one more round from **with (B) Fasten off yarn and join (A) in second set of dc in corner, weave in ends.


Back Pillow Cover (working in rows and using (A) until finished)

Row 1: Ch 3 in corner dc, dc in next corner dc and in each dc across, turn (50 dc + 1ch 3dc)
Row 2: Ch 3 counts as dc, dc in each dc across, turn (50 dc + 1ch 3dc)
Row 3: Ch 3 counts as dc, *sc in next dc, dc in next dc, repeat* 24 times, turn (25 dc, 25 sc + 1ch 3dc)
Row 4: Ch 3 counts as dc, dc in each sc and in each dc across, turn (50 dc + 1ch 3dc)
Row 5 - 29: Repeat - alternating row 3 and 4 for pattern, Fasten off at end of last row and weave in ends.


Finishing and Stuffing

To sew cover together, thread yarn needle with (A), fold the granny and rows of sc/dc right sides together flat with fold facing you, join yarn at corner near fold and blanket stitch through row end back loops only, hide yarn as you work.  Work up right side , across top and down left side halfway to leave room for stuffing the pillow inside. Turn cover inside out and stuff pillow inside cover and finish sewing together. Fasten off yarn and hide inside. Take (A) and thread yarn needle, join in center ring of granny, sewing around the bottom of the 1st row of dc over ring, make 12 French knots in the ring. Fasten off, weave in ends.
