Caterpillar Scarf

This fun and bright Caterpillar Scarf looks like it has a cute and fluffy caterpillar crawling right down the center of it!  Embellished with pom poms, this simple crochet scarf pattern is sure to be well-loved no matter what your crochet level.  It would be a fun scarf for kids and adults alike and would be great for wearing any time of year.  Jazz up a summer outfit or keep warm in the winter with this fun and colorful crocheted scarf pattern!

Caterpillar Scarf


  • 5mm (H) crochet hook
  • Double knit (8 ply) Jester yarn available from Designer Yarns – 1 skein used for scarflette or 2 for scarf
  • Stitch marker
  • Wool needle


Gauge:  8 sts & 6 rows = 2”


Approximate Size:

  • Scarflette Length: 34” (86.3cm) Width: 5 1/2” (14cm)
  • Scarf Length: 68” (172.6cm) Width: 5 ½” (14cm)



  • HK – hook
  • CH – chain
  • SS – Slip Stitch
  • HDC – half double crochet
  • HDC Inc – Half double crochet Increase.  Increase by placing 2 hdc in 1 stitch.


At the end of each round just carry on, do not join with a slip stitch.  
Mark the start of each round and then move marker as a round is completed.

  1. Ch 20
  2. Row 1) 1 hdc inc in 2nd ch from hk, *miss ch, 1 hdc inc* across, ch2, turn (20)
  3. Row 2-70) Miss 1st stitch, *1 hdc inc, miss st* across, 2 hdc in last st, ch 2, turn (20)
  4. Row 71)  Miss 1st stitch, *1 hdc inc, miss st* across, 2 hdc in last st, finish (20)
  5. If you want to make the scarf join the next skein and carry on with the pattern for another 71 rows.
