Little Girl's Purse

Just in time for Easter you can make this free crochet pattern. The little flowers are attached with a safety pin crocheted into the flowers. You can take them off and put a brooch or anything you want.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Cotton or whatever you wish
  • Crochet hook : I used Aero .4.00 (you can use size which will give you the gauge)

ABREVIATIONS
Chain = ch
Single crochet = sc
Slip stitch = sl

Gauge: 8 sc; 4 rows = 2 inches in width

Ch 31; turn, sc in each ch till end, ch one and turn. Sc in each sc ch one turn. Repeat for 44 rows then start decreasing. To decrease you insert your hook into two sc(s) at one time, then loop through both sc(s). Do this at each side finishing with 4 chains left. Cut yarn, slip through the stitch and weave into the flap. Tie yarn to either side of the flap where the decrease started, make sc(s) in each row of the flap, when you reach the tip of the flap where there are 4 stitches, do not make sc(s), instead make a chain of 6 stitches, pick up on the other side of the 4 stitches and continue the sc(s); chain one turn and sc in all sc(s) making 6 sc(s) in the chain, and continuing down the side, pull yarn and cut off.

Strap : Chain 6, sc in next 5 ch(s), ch one and turn, repeat to make the strap 36 inches long or as long as you need it to be depending on the height of the child.
Fold the purse in half to where you started decreasing. Pin the middle fold and count 2 sc(s) each side of the pin and mark with other pins. Do same on the other side. Take one strap end which is 4 sc(s) wide and pin it where the pins are. Adjust the rest of the sides of strap with pins on each side.
Slip stitch or sew the straps in place. Fold flap and mark where the button should be placed.

Button: ch 3 leaving a 4 inch length of yarn (this will be used to tie button to purse), join with a slip stitch into the first stitch. Make 6 sc(s) into the middle of the circle, join with a slip stitch. 6 sc(s) in the 6 sc(s) join. Repeat for two rows the stuff and start decreasing your rows by picking up 2 sc(s), sc in next4, decrease again. Decrease again ending with 2. Cut yarn a 4 inches, slip stitch in 2 and pull closed and make a knot with the beginning 4 inch. Tie the button in the middle of the 4th row of the purse or where you have marked the best position according to your purse.

The decoration could be what you want. Make one/or several small flowers in crochet, or add beautiful buttons, or a decorative pin(s).
