Materials List

  • Sculpey Bake Shop® Bendy Multi-pack 10 pc
  • Sculpey Bake Shop® Modeling Tools 4 pc
  • Deli paper or scrap paper

Instructions

  1. Getting Started: Please make sure your work area is covered and you are not working on an unprotected surface. We recommend working on the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat, wax paper, metal baking sheet, or disposable foil. Uncured clay may damage unprotected furniture or finished surfaces. Be sure to cover your crafting area appropriately. Start with clean hands, unwrap and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay though a Pasta Machine. We recommend using a designated machine for clay purposes only. When working with multiple colors, clean hands with soap and water or baby wipes (we have found that baby wipes work best) before switching colors. Shape clay, pressing pieces firmly together. Wash hands after use. Baking: Begin by preheating oven to 285°F (140°C). After you are done creating; for best results bake clay on an oven-proof surface such metal, aluminum foil, an index card or the Sculpey® Oven Safe Work Mat at 285°F (140°C) for 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness according to package directions. Oven safe glass or ceramic surfaces are also acceptable for baking; however please note that the baking times may take longer as the glass or ceramic surfaces take longer to heat up. For best baking results, use an oven thermometer. DO NOT USE MICROWAVE OVEN. DO NOT EXCEED THE ABOVE TEMPERATURE OR RECOMMENDED BAKING TIME. BAKING SHOULD BE DONE BY AN ADULT.

  2. Roll the 1 ounce bar of Black Bake & Bend into a thick rope. Score the rope into three equal sections.

  3. From 1/3 of the rope make an oval shaped head, a teardrop shaped body, two tiny triangle ears, and two small teardrop shaped feet. Set these body parts aside for now.

  4. It will be easiest to work with this next step with the clay on a piece of scrap paper. Make a very thin pancake from the remaining 2/3 of the Black. Roll over it with the little roller to make it very smooth and flat.

  5. Cut the circle in half with the knife tool.

  6. Use the 1.25” circle cutter to cut three circles out along the center line. Remove the circles that you cut and set them aside.

  7. Roll super skinny ropes of Red Bake & Bend. Place these ropes as shown on the wings.

  8. Align the wings as shown leaving a narrow gap of about 1/4” in between them. Once again, lay the wings on scrap paper or deli paper so they are easy to pick up later.

  9. Press the body into place over the edges of the wings. Press the head to the top of the body. Add the little ears to the head. Press the feet along the sides of the bottom of the body.

  10. Add eyes with Yellow and Red clays. Score a smile in the face with the edge of the circle cutter. Prick little nostrils with the poker tool. Add little triangles of White for fangs. Cut openings in the feet with the knife tool so the bat has toes. Bake following the baking instructions for Bake & Bend. If the bat is really stuck to the paper you can just bake him on the paper and peel it off later. Allow to cool completely before handling.
