LadyBug Plant Holder

By: Stephenie Hamen for Fiskars Americas

This is a great craft for the kids to help out with. If you don't want ladybugs on the pot you can change the paint to yellow and have bees flying around instead. Using card stock and kid-safe paint this painted plant holder can be a new kid-design in the house.

Lady Bug Plant Holder

  • Pink cardstock
  • Green cardstock
  • Red cardstock
  • White cardstock
  • Red kid-safe tempera paint
  • 1 clay pot
  • Button
  • Permanent marker
  • Fiskars Seal of Approval punch in L and XL
  • Fiskars Apron Lace border punch
  • Fiskars paper crimper
  • Fiskars tape runner

  1. Trim the white and red cardstock into 1x12 strips punch the entire edge with the Apron Lace punch.
  2. Next, layer them bottom up white, red, and white. If the paper does not go all the way around, cut more 1 inch strips and meet them up until it goes around. Stagger the meeting points to hide them a bit with the layer above.
  3. Next, have your child dip their finger into the red paint and make little dots all over the pot. Allow the paint to dry completely.
  4. While the paint is drying, cut the green cardstock into thin strips. Next, run the strips through the paper crimper and set them aside.
  5. Trim a ½ inch strip to use as the flower base. Use the XL Seal of Approval punch to punch the large flower base out of pink. Next punch a L Seal of Approval from the white cardstock. Layer them and add the button to create the flower. Then, slide the punches partway into the green cardstock to create the leaves. Layer it all together and create the flower and stem.
  6. Once the paint is dried, take a permanent marker and draw in the details of the ladybugs.
  7. Finally, layer in the crimped paper pieces to create your plant and add the flower as the final touch!
  8. Now you can sit back and enjoy your hassle-free plant!

This would be a good craft for my grandchildren to make for their mother for Mother's Day-she loves anything with Ladybugs.
