Check out this Everything You Need to Know about Elastics video for the lowdown on how to use elastics and what type works best with your sewing projects. Learning how to sew oftentimes comes hand in hand with learning how to sew elastic. If you are staring down at a sewing pattern or tutorial that requires elastic, be sure to check out this video first. In this free sewing video, expert sewist, Angel Peterson, lays out the three most popular types of elastic and when you should use them. Braided, knit, woven, and specialty elastics all have different properties and are perfect for different projects. The wrong elastic can ruin a project or make a wearable insanely tight and uncomfortable.

This was a super informative video about the different types of elastic - who knew, right?!! Thank you for the great information. I am putting in a casing elastic and using elastic from Louise Cutting to complete my project. Yaaay!!!!

You are so right this is a great video and everyone should watch it especially beginners. I have used wrong elastic before and had to take it off and had to take it out of casing because it was to stiff and the casing looked terrible. And some of the elastics I did not know about. I almost always use the knit one because like she said when in doubt use the knit. What about you? Very informative information.
