Very clever and inexpensive idea. I have made salt dough ornaments many times. I still have a Santa face I made about ten years ago. It was very easy. Take a small circle, put some dough thru a garlic press for his beard and hair, and add a hat before baking. Then paint on eyes and nose. I live in Florida and it's very humid so I had to seal mine with something. I used polyurethane . If I didn't the moisture would get in and he would crumble.
