Teacup Chair Cushion

Knit a set of chair cushions with stripes and a center embroidered teacup. These cushions from Lily Sugar n' Cream are a great way to decorate kitchen chairs and make them a bit more comfortable. These cushions match the Teacup Half Apron Knitting Pattern.
 

Knit Teacup Chair Cushion


Materials:

  • Yarn: Lily® Sugar’n Cream (2.5 oz/70.9 g)

Main Color (MC): (White) 16 balls
Contrast A: (Blue) 2 balls
Contrast B: (Green) 2 balls

  • Knitting Needles: Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles and pair of size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) double pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 1¼ ins [3 cm] thick foam cut into 16 ins [40.5 cm] square

Size: Approx. 16 in. [40.5 cm] square.

Gauge: 16 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in seed st pat.

Instructions:

Note: When working from chart, wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each separate area of color in the design. Start new colors at appropriate points. To change colors, twist the two colors around each other where they meet, on WS, to avoid a hole.

FRONT
With MC, cast on 67 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
This row forms seed st pat.
Work a further 9 rows in seed st pat ending with RS facing for next row.
**With A, work 2 rows in stocking st.
With MC, knit 1 row.
With MC, work 3 rows in seed st pat.
With B, work 2 rows in stocking st. **

Next row: With MC, knit.
Work 24 rows in seed st pat.
Next row: (WS). Work 33 sts in seed st pat. Inc 1 st in next st. Work in seed st pat to end of row. 68 sts.

Proceed as follows:
1st row: With MC, work 23 sts in seed st pat. Work 1st row of Chart across next 22 sts in stocking st reading row from right to left. With MC, work in seed st pat to end of row.
2nd row: With MC, work 23 sts in seed st. Work 2nd row of Chart across next 22 sts, reading row from left to right. With MC, work in seed st pat to end of row.
Chart is now in position.
Cont working Chart to end of chart, ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row: Work 33 sts in seed st pat.
Work 2tog. Work in seed st pat to end of row. 67 sts.
Work 24 rows in seed st pat.

With B, work 2 rows in stocking st.
With MC, knit 1 row.
With MC, work 3 rows in seed st pat.
With A, work 2 rows in stocking st.
Next row: (RS). With MC, knit.
With MC, cont working in seed st pat for 9 rows ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off in pat.

BACK
With MC, cast on 67 sts.
Proceed in seed st pat until Back from beg measures same length as Front ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

SIDE PANEL
With MC, cast on 7 sts.
Proceed in seed st pat until Panel from beg measures 64 ins [162 cm] (when slightly stretched) ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

FINISHING
With B, embroider teacup and handle using stem st (see diagram).

Ties: (make 2 for each chair pad). With MC and double pointed needles, cast on 3 sts.*K3. Slide sts to right end of needle and tighten yarn. Rep from * until work from beg measures 16 ins [40.5 cm]. Pull yarn through rem sts. Fasten off.

Sew ends of side panel tog. Sew side panel to Front placing seam of side panel at back of chair pad. Sew center of ties to bottom of side panel at back as illustrated. Sew Back to side panel leaving an opening to insert foam. Insert foam. Sew opening closed.
