Materials:

  • Yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream Twists (56.7 g/2 oz)  2 balls of #20009 (Taupe Twists).
  • Crochet Hook: Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Size: Approx 10 ins [25.5 cm] square.

Gauge: 15 sc and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

Stitches:
Dcbp
= Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st at back of work 1 row below, inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.
Dcfp = Yoh and draw up a loop around post of next st at front of work 1 row below, inserting hook from right to left. (Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice.

Rep last 2 rows of Waffle Pat until work from beg measures 10 ins [25.5 cm]. Fasten off.

The technique she used here to create that waffle stitch is the front post double crochet and the back post double crochet. There are lots of YouTube tutorials on it, if you are unfamiliar with it or if you just need a guide or refresher course. Once you get the hang of it, it's not that difficult. And the end result creates the texture needed for quite an absorbent cloth!

Re: Waffle Dishcloth. See abbreviations I do not understand what is meant to do: dc I know is double crochet but dcbp, dcfp, ws, I have no idea what the bp, fp, ws mean. snault62@yahoo.com

I believe that dcbp is back post double crochet (BPDC) and dcfp of front post double crochet (FPDC). ws is usually wrong side. I hope this helps.
