Dollar Store Dresser Makeover

If you're short on cash, you're probably not looking for home decor crafts to make. Luckily, you only need to make a quick trip to your neighborhood dollar store for this fun project. A Dollar Store Dresser Makeover will change the overall look and feel of a bedroom. Use stickers to turn a boring dresser into an exciting piece of art. Save money on furniture and breathe new life into an old, forgotten piece.

Materials:

  • Painted dresser
  • Stickers (I purchased mine from my local dollar store)
  • Scissors
  • Cleaner for surface of dresser
  • Optional: Craft knife (nice to have on hand for specific cutting tasks)

Instructions:

  1. Clean the dresser to remove any residue.

  2. Starting with the larger stickers, determine placement and stick to surface of dresser.

  3. Use scissors to cut stencil apart when you reach the edge of the drawer. You can then cut the stencil to fit to the face of the dresser and continue the design on lower drawers.

  4. Press edges of stickers firmly to surface, particularly along any curved edges.

  5. If needed/desired, apply sealer. (Test first to see that your sealer is compatible with your stickers.)

My mother used to love to do this sort of thing every chance she got. Using a sealer is a very good idea. It helps keep the stickers from wearing and peeling over time and from busy little fingers. Because dollar stores now tend to carry a nice selection of stickers, this can be done fairly cheap too. Another idea is using vintage looking cards or stamps.

It's the simple and small decor hacks that change your entire room decor. Take this dresser makeover for example, all you need is some stickers and a pair of scissors. You can do this to a nightstand or even your headboard and it will cost you way less than it would to replace the furniture.

Every time I see something like this, I want to throw out all my furniture and start over again. No one would ever have one that looked exactly like mine! Stickers are underrat4ed when it comes to decorating. This project probes that they can make an inexpensive piece into a unique, exclusive piece of furniture.

Absolutely great idea. My three words when doing a project with my grand daughter are cheap, easy and cute. Her dresser at my house has seen better days. It's an off white and needs help. A fresh coat of white paint and she can pick out the stickers she wants on it.

A great and inexpensive way to jazz up an old boring dresser. The idea to use sealer over the stickers is great as I was wondering how to get them to stay on long term. my daughter has an all white dresser and this will be a great way to let her add her won touch to it without having to redo the whole thing, and the best part is that it is only a few dollars to do it. hs any body tried this and is there one type of sticker that work better then others?
