The Lemon Peel stitch is a really cook stitch if you have never tried it yourself. It looks complicated but it is NOT! It is just alternating single and double crochets in one row, then working double and single crochets in the next row. Then flip back to single and double in the next and so on. This look is achieved by stacking those single/double crochets. I think anyone would love this as a gift. And a neutral color is just perfect for people whom you are not sure what colors they like!
