Materials:

  • 5 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Coffee
  • 4 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Warm Brown
  • 4 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Tan
  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

 

Gauge:  8 dc = 2 ½”; 6 rows = 5 ¼”

Loco for Cocoa Afghan

Instructions:

  1. Row 1 (RS):  With coffee ch 175, 2 dc in 5th ch from hook, *[skip next ch, 2 dc in next ch] 5 times, skip next ch, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch, skip next ch, [2 dc in next ch, skip next ch] 5 times**, 2 dc in next ch, skip next 4 chs, 2 dc in next ch, repeat from * across ending last repeat at **, skip next ch, 2 dc in next ch, skip next ch, dc in last ch, fasten off and turn.
     
  2. Row 2:  Join warm brown with a sl st in first st, ch 2, skip next dc, dc in space between last dc and next dc, [skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in space between last dc and next dc] 6 times, *(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch sp, skip next dc, 2 dc in space between last dc and next dc, [skip next 2 ch, 2 dc in space between last dc and next dc] 5 times **, skip next 6 dc, dc in sp between last dc and next dc, [skip next 2 dc, 2 dc in space between last dc and next dc] 5 times, repeat from * across ending last rep at **, skip next 2 dc, dc in space between last dc and next dc, dc in last st, fasten off and turn.

 

Color Pattern

  • Rep Row 2 for pattern changing to next color on each row as follows:
  • Coffee, Warm Brown, Tan for a total of 69 rows

 

Edging

  1. Row 1 (RS):  With coffee work along right side edge start at bottom edge dc, *2 sc in first dc, *ch 1, 2 sc in next dc, repeat from * across ending 2 sc in last dc and fasten off.
     
  2. Repeat along opposite edge starting at upper left side edge.
     
  3. Row 2 (RS):  Start at beg of Row 1, *sc in space between 2 sc, ch 2, rep from across ending ch 2.
     
  4. Work along top edge, 2 dc in space after 2 sc of Row 1, continue pattern as established for afghan,  at end of row 2 dc in space before 2 sc of row 1, ch 2.  Work along side edge, *sc in space between 2 sc, ch 2, rep from * across ending sc in space between last 2 sc, and fasten off.

I notice there is no size given. What would be the approximate finished dimensions?

Hi dbbender50--Thanks for your comment. The size of the afghan will depend on the crochet hook and the yarn that you're using...but on average, the blanket should be about 40x50" when completed. Hope that helps!--FC Editors
