When making a potholder make the backing an inch wider all the way around. To bind all you have to do is pull the backing to the front, fold under and sew. The hanger can be added in one seam.

I've used this technique when I make fabric bags that are lined. I just make the top of the lining longer and turn it over to finish off the bag. I used to teach quilting (retired from teaching to do my own quiltis) and this technique always wowed my students.

This is how I bind some of my quilts, as well. Makes it SO much easier! You can, of course, make the binding as thin or thick as you'd like with this technique.

What a great idea!
