A Lampshade on the Fringe

The only edge this lampshade is on is the cutting edge. Make your own modern lamp shade complete with decorative fringes. This craft from Jacquard Products will brighten up any interior design.

Decorated Fringe Lamp Shade

Materials:

  • Lampshade (fabric or paper)
  • Jacquard Textile Color Black
  • Hot glue gun
  • Pencil or auto fade pen
  • Beaded fringe
  • Paintbrushes (1/4" flat and 1/4" round)

Steps:

  1. Lightly sketch your design onto your lampshade. If you are using a paper lampshade, it is possible to lightly pencil in your design and erase any mistakes. If you are using a fabric lampshade you can use an auto fade pen to lay out your design.

  2. Paint your design onto the lampshade with Jacquard Textile Color Black.

  3. Let paint dry completely. It is not necessary to heatset or fix the paint for this project.

  4. To add a beaded fringe to bottom of the lampshade, use a hot glue gun. Lay down a line of hot glue on the inside of the lampshade that is a few inches long. Then lay the ribbon of the beaded fringe into the hot glue. Don’t put down too long of a length of hot glue at a time because it will cool and harden before you can attach the beads. Continue working around the lampshade until you have the entire fringe attached.

I would like to do this project to update several lamps in my house. My greatest challenge though is finding some actual plain lamp shades. Do you have a source to recommend? And can this be done on any textile shade? Does the paint come in a variety of colours, to match any trim?

Your article made my day delightful and really helpful. Do you know why? I ordered custom lampshades for my living room with an animal print, that was match for my carpet from http://jovin.com. Their design was fabulous. But now, you give me a great idea for my old antique lamp stands, that hiding in my closet. With your tips I can make my own!

why doesnt these craft recipes have 'add it' to put in my craft box
