Adult Crochet Poncho

 

Materials:

  • Yarn: Bernat Boa (50 g/1.75 oz)

Sizes XS/M–L/2XL–3XL/5XL
Main Color (MC) (81305 Parrot) 3–4–4 balls
Contrast A (81303 Doo Doo Bird) 3–4–4 balls
Contrast B (81105 Blue Bird) 2–2–3 balls
Contrast C (81205 Peacock) 2–2–3 balls
Contrast D (81104 Mocking Bird) 2–2–2 balls

  • Crochet Hook: Size 6.5 mm (U.S. 10 1/2 or K) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 10 1/2 sc and 13 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

Sizes:
To fit bust measurement
Extra-Small/Medium 28-38" [ 71-96.5 cm ]
Large/2 XLarge 40-50" [ 101.5-127 cm ]
3 XLarge/5 XLarge 52-62" [ 132-157.5 cm ]


Instructions:

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

Stripe Pattern
With MC, work 3 rows.
With A, work 2 rows.
With B, work 2 rows.
With D, work 3 rows.
With B, work 2 rows.
With C, work 4 rows.
With MC, work 2 rows.
With C, work 4 rows.
With A, work 3 rows.
With D, work 2 rows.
With A, work 3 rows.
With MC, work 2 rows.
With B, work 4 rows.
With MC, work 2 rows.
With D, work 2 rows.
With A, work 2 rows.
These 42 rows form Stripe Pat.

FRONT and BACK (make alike)
With MC, ch 46 (48-54).
Foundation row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. 45 (47-53) sts. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
2nd row of Stripe Pat is complete.
Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last row until work from beg measures 27 (28-30)" [68.5 (71-76) cm].
Fasten off.

FINISHING: Sew end of Front to side of Back. Sew end of Back to side of Front. (See Diagram).

Neck Edging: Join MC with sl st to any corner of neck opening. Work 100 sc evenly around neck edge. Join with sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.

Drawstring: With MC, make a chain 54" [137 cm] long. Fasten off. Beg at center front, thread Drawstring along neck edge.

I'm making this now, the only question I have how do you sew it together it states to look at the diagram but I don't see it.. any help on this would be really appreciate I am almost finished crocheting it.

have made this several times, using different yarns and croched hooks, adjustng the overall sizes, depending on the yarns. Also, I have found this shawl is a good way to use up odds and ends of yarn. They make great gifts to give to seniors in nursing homes, and often, smaller sizes work better as they fit over the shoulders, without being caught in wheel chair wheels or bed linens. Bobbye
