What is different about this long and fairly slim scarf design is the fact that the fringe is worked as you go, instead of cutting lengths of yarn and attaching it on the ends of the scarf. You make the fringe as long tails of yarn! This is something I have never done before, so, message to the original blogger bravo for your originality .

You have the scarf in you tube because I am confuse.

what stitch is used? Not much on instructions

It says sc.

I think this is a smart design! I am going to try this one for sure :) Hope I will be able to crochet it as I did some crochet in school. After so many years (almost 20 yrs!) I want to make some quick and easy scarfs for my sister and myself. This is going to be fun :)

I am new to crocheting n not sure I understand. Do I use both colors at once through the whole scraf or use one color each time for each row (making stripes)?

Love this! Thank you for sharing! Our church makes hats & scarves for the homeless in our community - I'm going to share this one with the ladies!

What a neat idea. I've made a scarf with multiple yarns this way but never thought of leaving extra for the fringe. Thank you!

Has anyone tried this with one strand of bulky?

No. But now I'm thinking about all those bits and pieces leftover from other projects. I bet you could intersperse different weights, too. You might have to work two stitches instead of one for a skinny yarn but it might be really interesting to play with.

oh me I cant wait to try this.. I haven't crocheted with 2 strands yet and have so much scraps this will be a perfect project. Thank you printed and ready to go!!

Hi Barb you don't come across as dumb to me Sometimes things just don't make sense if you can't picture them You don't crochet the scarf in strips It's all one piece and you're right about the long tail at the beginning and end of each row resulting in the fringe So basically you're just crocheting a row at a time fastening off at the end of each row leaving a long tail and attaching the next row at the same point where you would have made your turning chain if you hadn't fastened off Again being sure to leave a long tail I hope that wasn't even more confusing to you I haven't made this scarf yet but it looks like a fast and easy way to make some last minute holiday gifts using up leftover yarn I might change off the colors a bit using one main color theRead More whole way through and different second colors for an interesting tweedy effect Good luck

We call these "scrap scarves" in my charity group. You can just grab a few different yarns in a similar color and create a unique scarf while using up the ends of skeins that you might have otherwise tossed out. We've made several dozen of these for the local library to distirbute to children in need. Now we all trade our "leftovers" and make more and more!

@Barb P, I'm sorry to hear of your trouble. I have two options for you: 1. You can contact the pattern designer directly for help. The designer is specified in the byline. 2. I might also suggest that you try posting your question to our sites Facebook page. It is monitored by the editor and is a great resource for helpful tips and suggestions from our Facebook friends; perhaps they can offer some guidance! I know that I am going to come across as pretty "dumb" but I need some clarification. When you say "finish off leaving a long tail". Do you mean cut the yarn? Do you crochet this scarf in strips and join them together with each new row? Is the "long tail of each row result in the fringe?

Good pattern for left overs. I love to see the different patterns no one scarf is alike. Thanks

As a fairly experienced crocheter, I am embarrassed to admit that I have a hard time keeping two strands of yarn from tangling when I am working with them as in the simple pattern above. What am I missing or doing wrong? Is there a trick to keeping them working smoothly together so I don't spend more time untangling yarn than crocheting? Thanks

Hi gramywheels, it's been almost a year since your question, and you've probably already gotten an answer, but I'll throw in my two cents. I LOVE ziplock bags. When I work with multiple strands of yarn, I roll each color into a ball and put each ball in it's own ziplock bag. I seal the bag almost all the way, leaving just a little open (enough for a strand of yarn to easily slide out). Then I'll put both of those bags into a larger ziplock bag together. Depending on the size of my project, that's where I'll also store the piece I'm working on, the pattern, hook, etc. Everything I need to just grab it and go. I hope this helps a little.

I have used the pattern for several scarves. It is easy and is makes a great looking scarf. Thanks!
