Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Materials:

  • 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Honeydew
  • 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Lemon
  • 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver yarn in White
  • 3 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Sea Coral
  • 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

 

Gauge:  4 rows – 2 ¼”; 2 Shells – 3”

 

Special Stitches:

  • Shell – (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in space or stitch as indicated.
  • Picot – (sc, ch 3, sc) in space or stitch as indicated.

Sea Coral Afghan

Instructions:
Afghan is crocheted in multiples of 5 plus 4.
Afghan Measures:  42” x 52”

  1. Row 1: With honeydew ch 144, Shell in 6th ch from hook, *skip 4 chs, Shell in next ch, repeat from * across to last 3 chs, skip 2 chs, dc in last ch, turn,.
     
  2. Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first dc, ch 2, picot in ch 1 space of Shell, *ch 2, sc in space before next Shell, ch 2, picot in ch 1 space of Shell, repeat from * across ending ch 2, sc in last dc, turn.
     
  3. Row 3: Ch 3, Shell in each ch 3 space across, dc in last sc, turn,
     
  4. Row 4: Ch 1, continue with Row 2, fasten off and turn,
     
  5. Row 5: Join coral in first stitch, ch 3, Shell in each ch 3 space across, dc in last sc, turn.
     
  6. Row 6: Ch 4, *sc in ch 1 space of Shell, * ch 2, sc in space before next Shell, ch 2, sc in ch 1 space of Shell, repeat from * across ending ch 2, sc in last dc, turn.
     
  7. Row 7: Ch 3, Shell in first sc, *dc in next sc, Shell in next sc, repeat from * across ending, dc in second ch of turning ch, turn.         
     
  8. Row 8: Ch 4, *sc in ch 1 space of Shell, ch 2, sc in dc between Shells, ch 2, repeat from * across ending ch 2, sc in last dc, fasten off and turn,
     
  9. Row 9: Join lemon in first stitch, ch 3, *Shell in first sc, skip next sc, Shell in next sc, repeat from * across ending dc in second ch of turning ch, turn.
     
  10. Row 10: Ch 1, continue with Row 2.
     
  11. Row 11: Ch 3, continue with Row 3.
     
  12. Row 12: Ch 1, continue with Row 2, fasten off and turn.
     
  13. Row 13: Join white in first stitch, ch 3 and continue with Row 5.
     
  14. Row 14: Ch 4, continue with Row 6.
     
  15. Row 15: Ch 3, continue with Row 7.
     
  16. Row 16: Ch 4, continue with Row 8, fasten off and turn.

Color Scheme

  • Continue pattern for a total of 83 rows as follows:  (4 rows honeydew, 4 rows coral, 4 rows lemon, 4 rows, white) 4 more times,  3 rows honeydew turn after last row and do not fasten off.

Edging

  1. With right side facing work along top edge picot in first stitch, ch 2, picot in ch 1 space of Shell, *ch 2, sc in space before next Shell, ch 2, picot in ch 1 space of Shell, repeat from * across ending ch 2, picot in last stitch.
     
  2. Work along side edge ch 2, picot in space between 3rd and 4th row (of honeydew), ch 2, picot in space between 1st and 2nd row (of white), ch 2, picot in space between 3rd and 4th row, ch 2, repeat pattern across.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge ch 2, picot in first stitch, *ch 2, sc in ch 4 space, ch 2, picot in ch below Shell, repeat from * across ending ch 2, picot in last stitch.
     
  4. Work along side edge ch 2 and continue pattern as for opposite side edge ending ch 2, join to beginning sc and fasten off.

What 4 rows are used on the repeats ?
