Bands of Lace Afghan

This lovely Bands of Lace Afghan is perfect for year-round comfort. Alternating bands of tangerine and white make this blanket a wonderful choice for adding a little pop of color to your home decor. This crocheted afghan is also quite lacy, making it a nice blanket for those cooler spring and summer evenings. Easy enough for crochet fans of all skill levels, this light and lacy blanket is everything you want in a pattern...simple, beautiful, and colorful.

Easy

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Materials:

  • 4 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in Sea Coral
  • 4 skeins Red Heart Classic yarn in White
  • 5.0 mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

 

Gauge:  Rows 2-5 – 3 ¼”; 8 dcs – 2 ½’

 

Special Stitch:  

  • Cluster (Cl) – *Yo, insert hook in specified stitch or space and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops on hook, repeat from * twice more in same stitch or space, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Instructions:
Afghan is crocheted in multiples of 6 plus 5.
Afghan Measures:   42” x 51”

  1. Row 1: With coral ch 137, dc in 6th ch from hook, *skip 4 chs, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each of next 2 ch, repeat from * across to last 5 ch, skip 4 ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in last ch, turn.
     
  2. Row 2 (RS): Ch 5, dc in first dc, *skip 2 ch 2 spaces, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each of next 2 dc, repeat from * across to last 2 ch 2 spaces, skip last 2 ch 2 spaces, (dc, ch 2, dc) in last dc, turn,
     
  3. Row 3: Ch 3, dc in next ch 2 space, ch 2, dc in next ch 2 space, *dc in next 2 dc, and in next ch 2 space, ch 2 dc in next ch 2 space, repeat from * across to last dc, dc in last dc, turn.
     
  4. Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch 2 space, [dc in next 4 dcs 2 dc in next ch 2 space] across to last 2 dc, dc in last 2 dc, turn.
     
  5. Row 5: Join white in first stitch, ch 5, dc in first dc, *skip 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in each of next 2 dc, repeat from * across to last 5 dc, skip 4 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in last dc, turn.

Color Scheme

  • Continue pattern repeating Rows 2 – 5 for a total of 60 rows as follows:  (4 rows white, 4 rows coral) 7 times

Edging

  1. With right side facing and white work along top edge 2 sc in first right corner dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, Cl in next dc, ch 3, skip 1 dc, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, *ch 3, skip 1 dc, Cl in next dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 sc in each of next 2 dcs, repeat from * across ending ch 3, 2 sc in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge ch 3, skip 1 dc space, *Cl in next dc space, ch 3, 2 sc in next dc space, ch 3, repeat from * across ending ch 3, 2 sc in first ch of bottom edge.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge *ch 3, Cl in ch 4 space, ch 3, 1 sc in each of next 2 chs, repeat from * across ending ch 3, 2 sc in last ch.
     
  4. Work along side edge *ch 3, Cl in first dc space, ch 3, 2 sc in next dc space, repeat from * across ending ch 3, skip last dc space, join to beginning sc and fasten off.
