Newspaper Planter

Materials:

  • Hot glue gun
  • Clear acrylic sealer
  • A container (I used one that was for breadcrumbs)
  • 1 spool of Newspaper yarn

Instructions:

  1. Take the container and turn it upside down and glue the newspaper around and around until you reach the top lip of container.

  2. Work in small section so the glue doesn’t dry too quickly on you. Try to glue each wrap as close as you can to the row before as to not leave gaps. Feel free to embellish as well with beads and tassels and funky odds and ends!

I just did a search for newspaper yarn, as I never heard of yarn before, and there are tutorials out there that show you how to make it using inch or so wide strips, and a spindle, where you spin and twist the strips and then overlap them to continue. If you have the patience and inclination, it is quite cool! You can buy it also! I think this planter does look really cool, and would be a neat gift for an editor or student on the yearbook staff! Creative and fun!

How do you make newspaper yarn? I could not find the link "#4 newspaper crafts"???

Did you find out how to make the newspaper yarn?

Jenny, I found the website for making newspaper yarn and how to make the spindle. Thanks phenonw

make your own newpaper yarn. here's a tutorial for making newpaper yarn http://www.larkcrafts.com/needlearts/newspaperyarn/ Remember you can make your own spindle with a dowel, disc and hook BE CREATIVE - that's what it's all about

There are comments that there are no instructions for making the newspaper yarn. I suppose they bought it, but my suggestion is to lay your newspaper flat (and include the Sunday comics in color) and start at one corner and roll it diagonally to the opposite corner....perhaps using a pencil or a straw as a guide (removing it quickly so that when the roll is complete it can be bent around a container. I hope this helps.

Newspaper yarn instructions???

Ohoh....looks great but there are no newspaper yarn instructions....

instructions ?

No newspaper yarn instructions anywhere on this site. Irresponsible.

the one star is because there are no instructions on how to make the newspaper yarn.

I love this. With newsprint now used with soy ink it's a lot less 'dirty' to make. I would come up with another way of making the yarn as in the U Tube video, way to arduous, I like simple and I'm going to give it a try.

I have seen a lot but really ????

If you Google "newspaper yarn" you will find lots of links to instructions.

Crappy instructions...what the heck is newspaper yarn and how do you make it?

Great idea, but I'll have to make it up as I go. The directions are really bad. Thanks Sweetolyve for the youtube link.

I tried the link given in the comments, but evidently it has been taken off. Would favecrafts please print instructions for making the newspaper yarn? Thank you.

Although I've never heard of newspaper yarn until today, I did find a great little instructional video on YouTube on how to make it. Here at this link...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKAnC1cW6zA

The author was assuming everyone knows how to make newspaper yarn . . . I don't ! !
