Materials:

  • Chocolate Brown Kraft Lunch Bag
  • Ruby Stardream Metallic Cardstock
  • Dark Orange Base Cardstock
  • Genesis Milkweed Recycled Paper
  • Gold Stardream Metallic Cardstock
  • Black Linen Paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. First, create the feathers. The biggest pop of color will come from the turkey’s decorative feathers. Now you can use any Thanksgiving style colored cardstock, but we preferred the rich hues of the ruby stardream, dark orange and genesis milkweed. Hand sketch a feather on a scrap piece of computer or loose leaf paper about 4 ½” long and 1 ½” wide. Once you have the correct look and shape of the feather, cut it out. This will be your template. We suggest folding your first piece of colored cardstock like an accordion about 2” wide. Gently trace the feather onto the folded colored cardstock (try using a colored pencil that closely matches the colored cardstock, this way you won’t see any hard grey pencil lines). Once you have successfully traced your feather from your template, while the paper is still folded, cut out the feather. This will produce about 4 feathers of this color so you don’t have to trace and cut each individual feather. Before separating the feathers gently fold them in half and cut little slits at the top part of the feather to give it a frayed edge.

  2. The face is what gives this little guy its adorable appeal. For this you will need the black linen paper and milkweed paper. Take an old CD and use the inner circle as a template for the whites of the eyes. You can even use an old pen to score the circle so you don’t have to cut them out by hand. Do the same with the black linen paper but you will have to trim off a bit to make the pupils a bit smaller. Simply attach the black pupils to the whites with glue. Sketch out the beak on a scrap piece of paper. It should be about 2 ½’’ long and 1 ½” wide. Fold the paper and trace similarly to how you cut out the feathers.

  3. Fold the paper bag about ¼ of the way down to create the face. Attach the eyes and beak with glue. Arrange the feathers in the color order you want them and attach one by one to the back of the bag. Once all of the parts are dry, fill with your choice of goodies for your guests. We went with pumpkin Hersey kisses, butterscotch candy and M&M’s.
