Materials:

 

  • Mod Podge ® Professional Tool Set
  • Mod Podge ® Hard Coat, 8 oz.
  • Fall themed scrapbook papers
  • Scissors
  • Foam paintbrush

Instructions:

  1. Cut the scrapbook paper into squares. You can cut them into random shapes and sizes or keep them the same.
     
  2. Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the base of the tray. Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the back of a paper square. Position the square on the tray and roll over it with the brayer.
     
  3. Continue with all the squares until the base of the tray is covered. Use the flat squeegee to help when applying the papers to the corners. You can overlap the papers or line them straight up. Brayer over the entire design. Allow to dry for 15 minutes and then top with 3 layers of Mod Podge with dry time in between.

Notes:

  • This same idea can be made with fabric scraps!

This is such a fun and practical project! I have made a similar one by modge podge on the underside of a glass plate with fabric showing through to the right side. I could see using fabric with this tray as well, or even wallpaper scraps, especially thicker or textured which would give some nice dimension to the tray. This would make a nice hostess gift, and you could use the same technique for smaller coasters too!
