Steps:

Dye Instructions

  1. Protect work surface with Surface Cover.

  2. Prewash T-shirt to remove sizing; do not use fabric softener. Lay damp T-shirt on prepared work surface.

  3. Wearing plastic gloves from dye box, add water to dye bottle, filling to line indicated on bottle. Replace cap tightly and shake until dye is dissolved.

  4. Squeeze dye onto T-shirt, leaving small patches of shirt uncolored as shown. Checking to make sure dye has penetrated to backside of shirt. Fold Surface Cover over T-shirt and let set for 6 to 8 hours or longer for most intense colors.
  5. Fully rinse T-shirt in warm water until all extra dye is removed and water runs clear. Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for the fabric and a small amount of laundry soap. Wash and dry separately.

Men’s T-shirt

  1. Lay T-shirt on clean work surface.

  2. Transfer gear pattern onto freezer paper with felt pen. Cut out with craft knife, keeping outside edges intact to create stencil.

  3. Place gear stencil waxy side down on bottom left corner of shirt and iron into place. Refer to photo.

  4. Place Fashion Form in between layers of shirt.

  5. Squeeze a small amount of Ebony Soft Fabric Paint onto disposable plate. Dab flat end of wedge makeup sponge into paint and apply to fabric inside stencil. Let dry and add a second coat if necessary.

  6. Peel away stencil to reveal painted gear. Wait 72 hours before washing. Wash in warm water, gentle cycle with mild soap; line dry.

Women’s T-Shirt

  1. Lay T-shirt flat on work surface and cut off the sleeves just outside the seams. Measure the circumference of one armhole.

  2. Cut two matching crescent-shaped pieces 4-inches wide by the length of the circumference measurement of one armhole.

  3. Baste along the straight edge of each crescent. Gather the fabric evenly over the thread, shortening the length by about a half.

  4. Center the stitched edge of the ruffled crescent along the top of each armhole and pin in place, righty side to right side. Sew in place. Take out the pins.

  5. Cut a straight line up the center of the front of shirt, from the bottom hem through the neckband. Measure from the neck to the bottom. Cut two 2-inch strips of plaid fabric. Sew strips to the inside edges of both sides.

  6. Measure the bottom of T-shirt all the way around. Cut a 4-inch strip of plaid fabric twice the measurement. Sew two lengths together if necessary.

  7. Baste along the straight edge of the strip and gather the fabric evenly. Pin to the bottom of the T-shirt, spreading evenly across the bottom. Sew in place then take out the pins.

  8. Starting at the neckband, use the tips of your scissors to snip small holes 1-inch apart and 1-inch in from the edge of the fabric, down both sides of the open front.

  9. Lace ribbon through the holes from the bottom to the top.

  10. Create gear design on right side of shirt following steps used for men’s shirt. Let dry.

  11. Position the Fleur-de-lis appliqué on fabric, design side up.

  12. Set iron to wool setting and cover appliqué with a thin pressing cloth. Iron in place following package instructions.
