Colorful Crochet Baby Blanket

Using a baby sport weight yarn you can crochet this beautifully colorful baby blanket. Baby will stay nice and warm wrapped in it. It's an easy crochet pattern that uses a G hook.

MEASUREMENTS
Approx 36 ins [91.5 cm] square.

  • MATERIALS:
  • Bernat® Baby Sport (Solids 350 g/12.3 oz; 1148 m/1256 yds)
  • Main Color (MC)
  • (21005 Baby White) 1 ball
  • Bernat® Baby Sport (Ombres 280 g/9.8 oz; 816 m/893 yds)
  • Contrast A
  • (24702 Punch Fun) 1 ball

Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE
17 dc and 9 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

 

INSTRUCTIONS: With MC, ch 148.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each ch to end of ch. 146 sts. Join A. Do not break MC. Pull long loop of MC to prevent from unraveling. Turn.
2nd row: With A, ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in first dc. *Ch 2. Miss next 5 dc. (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) all in next dc – shell made. Rep from * to last 6 dc. Ch 2. Miss next 5 dc. 2 dc in top of turning ch 3. Do not break A. Pull long loop of A to prevent from unraveling. Do not turn.
3rd row: Pick up dropped strand of MC from 1st row. With MC, ch 3. Sl st to top of ch 3 of 2nd row. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. Ch 1. Miss next dc of row below. *Working over ch-2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc 1 row below. Ch 2. 1 sc in ch-2 sp of shell. Ch 2. Miss next 2 dc 1 row below. Rep from * to last ch-2 and 2 dc. Working over ch-2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc 1 row below. Ch 1. Miss next dc. 1 sc in top of last dc. Turn.
4th row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in next ch-1 sp. *1 dc in each of next 2 dc. 2 dc in next ch-2 sp. 1 dc in next sc. 2 dc in next ch- 2 sp. Rep from * to last 4 sts. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. 1 dc in next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in last sc. Do not turn. Do not break MC.
5th row: Pick up dropped strand of A from 2nd row. With A, ch 3. Sl st to top of ch 3 at beg of 4th row. Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in same sp. *Ch 2. Miss next 6 dc. Shell in next dc. Rep from * to last 6 dc. Ch 2. Miss next 5 dc. 2 dc in last dc. Do not break A. Turn.
6th row: Pick up dropped strand of MC from 4th row. With MC, ch 3. Sl st to top of first dc of 5th row. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. Ch 1. Miss next dc of row below. *Working over ch-2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc 1 row below. Ch 2. 1 sc in ch-2 sp of shell. Ch 2. Miss next 2 dc 1 row below. Rep from * to last ch-2 and 2 dc. Working over ch-2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc 1 row below. Ch 1. Miss next dc. 1 sc in top of ch 3. Turn.
7th row: As 4th row. Turn. Do not break MC.
8th row: Pick up dropped strand of A from 5th row. With A, ch 3. Sl st to top of ch 3 at beg of 4th row. Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in first dc. *Ch 2. Miss next 6 dc. Shell in next dc. Rep from * to last 6 dc. Ch 2. Miss next 5 dc. 2 dc in top of turning ch 3. Do not break A. Do not turn.
Rep 3rd to 8th rows until work from beg measures approx 34 ins [86.5 cm], ending with 4th row.
Next row: (RS). Pick up dropped strand of A from 8th row. With A, ch 3. Sl st to top of ch 3 of last row. Ch 3 (counts as dc). 2 dc in first dc. *Miss next 2 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Miss next 3 dc. 6 dc in next dc. Rep from * to last 6 dc. Miss next 2 dc. 1 sc in next dc. Missnext 2 dc. 3 dc in last dc. Fasten off.
With RS of work facing, join A with sl st to bottom left corner. Working across foundation ch, proceed as follows:
Ch 3 (counts as dc). 2 dc in same sp as sl st.
*Miss next 2 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Miss next 2 ch. 6 dc in next ch. Rep from * to last 6 ch.
Miss next 2 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Miss next 2 ch. 3 dc in last ch. Fasten off.
