This easy beanie crochet pattern from Bernat Yarns is great practice for crochet beginners. With the right yarn, you do not have to switch balls to create the interesting colors. This crochet hat pattern can help warm your head anytime of the year.

 

Cool Crochet Beanie

 

 

Materials:

  • Yarn: 2 balls of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton (Solids: 50 g/1.75 oz or Ombres and Prints 42.5 g/1.5 oz) # 23741 (Playtime)
  • Crochet Hook: Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
     

Gauge:

14 sc and 15 rows = 4" [10 cm].

Measurements:

To fit Toddler 1-3 yrs (Child 5-8 yrs-Adult).

 

Pattern:

Ch 4. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. 6 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. 12 sc.
3rd rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc) 6 times. Join with sl st to first sc. 18 sc.
4th rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc) 6 times. Join with sl st to first sc. 24 sc.
5th rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc) 6 times. Join with sl st to first sc. 30 sc.

Keeping cont pattern, inc 6 sts on every row, as before to 48 (54-60) sts, then every following alt row to 60 (66-72) sts.
Work 9 (10-12) rows even.
Next rnd: Working from left to right instead of right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
