Faux Stain Glass in a Patio Door

Using inexpensive tissue paper in a variety of colors and a planned pattern, you can create a stained glass look on your patio door. Robin chose a panda pattern because her husband collects them, and the design can be left on year-round versus a seasonal image.

Pando Stained Glass

Materials:

  • liquid starch
  • craft paint brush
  • tissue in your theme choice colors
  • a crayon
  • scissors

Time: Time is dependent on theme.

Panda

Notes:

  • The main figure should go onto the glass first as you wish to see it from the outside. For example, a ear that is closest to you goes on first then the head and the second ear farthest back next .
  • The more layers of tissue the darker the pattern .
  • Eyes mouth nose these can be placed on the head before going onto glass .

Instructions:

  1. Using a crayon, map out where you are going to place your patterns on the glass lightly .

  2. Using your crayon design as a guide, apply liquid starch to the glass in shape of applique.

  3. Place tissue on area and smooth over with brush.

  4. Apply more starch to just moisten tissue.

  5. Continue until you have decorated your design onto the door.

  6. Allow to dry and it will last as long as it is not moistened again .

  7. To remove or change, simply moisten the art with paper towels and sloth off and dispose wet tissue into trash. Clean the slate so to speak and change or remove your design.

  8. Smaller versions could be placed on frame glass and viewed like any other picture.

Best thing about this is that the whole design is removable at the end of the day huh! It's probably going to keep your kids occupied for a few good hours getting their designs up on the glass doors for a while every time they get at it too. Looks like it may be time to start stocking up on all these coloured tissue papers so that you have a good range of a palette for them to play with!

You can choose this idea during holiday season, which the design would be a snowman, and it will serve as additional design for a glass door or even window and walls. You know what this is similar simple yet cool design that the CaldWells store in Bay Area San Francisco have, you can check them at caldwells.com, check and visit url.

This looks like a great way for kids to spend a rainy day!
