Long Boucle Wrap Sweater

Knit a long and cozy wrap sweater in nubby Boucle yarn with this free sweater knitting pattern from Bernat Yarns. This will keep you warm throughout the year.

Boucle Long Wrap Sweater

Materials:

  • Yarn: Bernat Soft Bouclé (140 g /5 oz) Grey Shades (26928) Size S–5 balls; M–5 balls; L–5 balls
  • Knitting Needles: Size 6 mm (U.S. 10) or size needed to obtain tension.
  • Crochet Hook: Size 6 mm (U.S. J or 10)
  • 3 st holders.

Tension: 15 sts and 22 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

Small 32-34 ins [81.5-86.5 cm ]
Medium 36-38 ins [91.5-96.5 cm ]
Large 40-42 ins [101.5-106.5 cm ]

Finished bust
Small 40 ins [101.5 cm ]
Medium 44 ins [112 cm ]
Large 48 ins [122 cm ]


Instructions:

 

LEFT FRONT: **Cast on 41 (45-49) sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row. This row forms seed st pat.
Work a further 21 rows in seed st.**
Next row: (RS). [K9 (10-11). M1] 3 times.  K8 (9-10). (P1. K1) 3 times.
Next row: K1. (P1. K1) 3 times. Purl to end of row. 44 (48-52) sts.
Next row: Knit to last 6 sts. (P1. K1) 3 times.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 25½ (25½-26) ins [65 (65-66.5) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.

V-neck & Armhole shaping: 1st row: Cast off 5 (7-8) sts. Knit to last 6 sts. (P1. K1) 3 times.
2nd row: K1. (P1. K1) 3 times. Purl to end of row.

BACK: Cast on 71 (79-87) sts.
Proceed in seed st as given for Left Front for 22 rows, inc 5 sts evenly across last row. 76 (84-92) sts.
Proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures same length as Front to beg of armhole shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Armhole shaping: Cast off 5 (7-8) sts beg next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following alt rows 4 (5-7) times. 56 (58-60) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures same length as Front to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shoulder Shaping: Cast off 7 (7-8) sts beg next 2 rows, then cast off 8 sts beg following 2 rows. Cast off rem 26 (28-28) sts.

SLEEVES
Cast on 35 sts.
Work 22 rows in seed st as given for Left Front, inc 2 sts evenly across last row. 37 sts. Work 4 ins [10 cm] of stocking st, placing a marker at each end of last row.
Cont in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of 5th row from marker and every following 8th (6th–4th) row until there are 55 (59-65) sts.
Cont even until work from marker measures 18 (18-18½) ins [45.5 (45.5-47) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Top Shaping: Cast off 2 (3-4) sts beg next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every following alt row to 25 (25-27) sts, then on every row to 11 (11-15) sts. Cast off.

Tie Belt: Cast on 11 sts. Work in seed st as given for Left Front for 48 ins [122 cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off in pat.

Loops for Belt: (Make 2). With crochet hook, ch 10. Fasten off leaving an end 6 ins [15 cm] long.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on Belt Loops.

I started making this about 10 years ago and was half way thru one sleeve when I put it away. I found it the other day and started to finish it but doesn't 18 inches above the 4inch ss and the border seem really long, it makes a 25 inch sleeve?
