There is a mistake in round 5 in the third set of brackets of the repeat section. It should read (1 hdc. 1 sc). I am not sure why we start that round with a ch 2 (counts as hdc). The rest of the star has a sc2tog between points. Only the start/finish has this different stitch. It creates a hole in this one spot, rather than a neat decrease like the other mid-sections. My finished starfish is ten inches wide, point to point.

I would really use this on my kitchen table as a centerpiece, along with a coordinating table runner. As a kitchen dish cloth, it is so darn adorable! The colors are just right, mimicking a real starfish from the sea. I will suggest making other cloths in maybe greens and blues, too.

I made this starfish dishcloth while on vacation. I love it once I got it figured out. After many attempts and always having trouble at the same spot I found a slight error in round 7 line 6. The * is in the wrong spot and it makes a big difference. I am newer at crochet so did not catch this the first few attempts. I also made it a little smaller by not adding the last row or two rows. I like a smaller dish cloths than some tho. I learned something and that is I will read the posts to see if there is an error before I start something. Learning experience and I do like it and recommend anyone trying this pattern. Andrea

I enjoyed making this dishcloth, but have to admit at first it drove me crazy. I finally discovered the slight error in the round 6 with the placing of the *. Next time I will read the comments and see if there is a mistake before I learn it the hard way. Thanks, Andrea

It would be very helpful FavCrafts if your directions were limited to 1 page. Give us the option on how to print. I am trying to save paper and ink. Also A PDF to download is FAB!

I LOVE this pattern and enjoyed making it. There is only one slight mistake. In row 6 the astrick should be before "1 sc in each of next 9 sts...." Where it is now it has you starting in the middle of a starfish arm without completing the first side. That just doesn't work :O) This was an easy pattern though. A beginner should be able to work this.

What is the number of chain stitches in the beginning for the starfush?

I think the number of stiches to begin should be listed. I love the butterfly dishcloth & have made several. Thank you.

Living in Myrtle Beach the star fish!! I've made a few and gave them to inland friends. They come out cute. Didn't like the butterfly body-loved the wings

i agree with Wendymom, i was thinking about the difficulty of the patterns.

I love both this pattern and the butterfly, but I am hoping this one is easier. They don't seem to say what rating these patterns are on difficulty. I am more experienced in knitting, and have finished a few crochet items, and can crochet the basic sts.

I love this pattern! I want to try it as soon as I finish the blanket I am on.

I like the starfish the best. Will try to get one made

i prefer the starfish dishcloth.....

I actually like the look of the butterfly dishcloth a little better, but for practicality, I'd go with the starfish. And besides, starfish and water go together.

I used to live near the beach and I miss it. This pattern is wonderful. The other pattern is beautiful, but I don't know how it would hold up in use.

This is a must, so cute will be admired by all and makes good little gifts. Thanks.

I love this pattern - and the starfish looks very realistic - a definate must for my kitchen!

The other pattern has too many open spaces in it to do the job as a functional wash cloth, although it's very pretty as a decorative motif.

The starfish looks more real to me.

I live in close to the beach and love all things Ocean.... starfish has it hands down.

Like the starfish, but don't think I could use that shape as a dishcloth.

I like the starfish dish cloth best.

Definitely like this one better than the butterfly :)

Everything but the sand! Love it!

I love it

I like this one.

I just don't understand this pattern. When I do the chain 9 4 sc 4 times there is several sc spaces left. I just can't figure it out. I did post a note on FB asking for help. I really want to make this. :-)

i would like to make this but it did not say how many chains to start. Also, could you tell me what "fi rst" means? thank you! these are so cute!

@jnshadyac 0081040, I'm sorry to hear of your trouble. I have two options for you: 1. You can contact the pattern designer directly for help. The designer is specified in the byline. 2. I might also suggest that you try posting your question to our sites Facebook page. It is monitored by the editor and is a great resource for helpful tips and suggestions from our Facebook friends; perhaps they can offer some guidance! I found the fi rst in another pattern. It is actually first, you probably figured that out by now. I don't know why that comes up. As for how many to chain I have a similar pattern and it called for ch. 4 but that was dc not sc. So I would chain at least 3 for this pattern. I love the combination of the yarn and pattern they were so made for each other, very pretty design this will fit very nicely with my bathroom theme.

Oh, and also to fix the fi rst's easily, if you have Word just go to the replace tab on the right and enter the fi rst in the first box and first in the second box and click replace all. Much faster than the one by one I did the first time. Do I have enough firsts in this reply? he he.
