Checked Chair Pad

Crochet a simple chair pad cover in a checked pattern for more comfortable chairs. This is a quick and easy crochet pattern from Lily Sugar n' Cream for decorating a kitchen or dining room.

Crochet Checked Chair Pad


Materials:

  • Yarn: Lily Sugar ’n Cream (70.9 g/2.5 oz)

Main color (MC) (Blue): 2 balls
Contrast A (White): 2 balls

  • Size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Cushion form (approx 16 ins [40.5 cm] wide) or fiberfill stuffing.

Size: To fit approx 16 ins [40.5 cm] square pillow form.

Gauge: 14 dc and 6½ rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

Instructions:

Note
: When changing colors, work to last 2 loops on hook of last st, then draw new color through rem 2 loops and proceed. When color is not in use, hold it across previous row and work over it.
FRONT and BACK (make alike)
With MC, ch 59.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in next ch. *With A, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch. With MC, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch. Rep from * to end of ch, joining A in last dc. 57 dc. Turn.
2nd row: With A, ch 3. Miss first dc. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc. *With MC, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. With A, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Rep from * to end of row, joining MC in last dc. Turn.
3rd row: With MC, ch 3. Miss first dc. 1 dc in each of next 2 dc.
*With A, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. With MC, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Rep from * to end of row, joining A in last dc. Turn.
Last 2 rows form check pat.
Work 1 more row in check pat.
Shape sides: Next row: With MC, ch 3. (Yoh and draw up a loop in next dc. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – dc2tog made. Pat to last 3 dc. Dc2tog over next 2 dc. 1 dc in last dc. Turn.
Work 3 rows even in pat.
Rep last 4 rows 3 times more. 49 dc.
Work 6 rows even in pat. Fasten off (top edge).

SIDE EDGE
With MC, ch 6.
1st row: (RS). 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in each of next 2 ch 4 dc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 3. Miss first dc. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Turn.
Rep last row until Side Edge measures length to fit around outer edge of Cushion, sewing in place as you work to Front and having seam at center top edge.
Sew rem side of Side Edge to Back of Cushion leaving an opening to insert cushion form. Insert form or fiberfill stuffing. Sew opening closed.
Sew Side Edge seam.

TIES (make 2)
With MC, make a chain 18 ins [45.5 cm] long. Turn chain sideways. Sl st in center ‘bump’ at back of 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in next bump and each bump to end of ch. Fasten off.
Fold each tie in half and sew folded edge to each back corner of Cushion.
