Finished Waist: 32 (34, 37, 39)”
Finished Length: 14”

ABBREVIATIONS: A, B, and C = color A, color B, and color C; ch = chain; dc = double crochet; sc = single crochet; st(s) = stitch(es); [ ] = work directions in brackets the number of times specified; * = repeat whatever follows the * as indicated.

Materials:

  • RED HEART® “Super Saver®”: 1 (1, 2, 2) skeins 365 Coffee A, and 1 skein each 235 Lemon B, 726 Coral C, and 631 Light Sage D.
  • Crochet Hook: 4 mm [US G-6].
  • Stich markers
  • ¾” flat elastic (for waistband)
  • Yarn needle.

 Mod Mini skirt

Gauge: 13 sts = 4”; 8 rows = 4”, in double crochet. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
 

Special Stitch:
dc2tog = [Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 2 times, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.

Note: Skirt is worked in rounds, from the lower edge up to the waist.


Stripe Pattern
*Work 2 rounds with A, 1 round with B, 1 round with C, 1 round with D; repeat from * for Stripe pattern.

SKIRT
With A, ch 140 (148, 156, 164). Taking care not to twist ch, slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1 (Right Side): Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each ch around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—140 (148, 156, 164) dc.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off A.
Place markers in 6 sts evenly spaced around last round.
Round 3 (Decrease Round): With Right Side facing, join B with slip st in top of beginning ch, ch 3, [dc in each dc across to st before next marker, remove marker, dc2tog] 6 times, dc in each remaining dc to end of round; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—134 (142, 150, 158) dc.
Fasten off B.
Round 4: With Right Side facing, join C with slip st in top of beginning ch, ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off C.
Round 5: With D, repeat Round 4. Fasten off D.
Round 6: With A, repeat Round 4. Do not fasten off A.
Round 7: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off A.
Round 8: With B, repeat Round 4. Fasten off B.
Round 9: With C, repeat Round 4. Fasten off C.
Place markers in 6 sts evenly spaced around last round.
Round 10 (Decrease Round): With D, repeat Round 3—128 (136, 144, 152). Fasten off D.
Rounds 11–22: Continuing in Stripe pattern as established, repeat Rounds 8–10 four more times—104 (112, 120, 128) dc on last round.
Round 23: With B, repeat Round 4. Fasten off B.
Continuing in Stripe pattern as established, repeat Round 23 until piece measures 13½” from beginning.


Waistband
Last 3 Rounds: Working in same color as last round, ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in each dc around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Edging
Round 1: With Right Side facing and working across opposite side of foundation ch (lower edge of skirt), join A with slip st in any ch, ch 1, sc in same ch, sc in each ch around; join with slip st in first sc—140 (148, 156, 164) sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, *sc in next sc, skip next sc, 3 dc in next sc, skip next sc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Fold 3 rounds of Waistband to Wrong Side and sew closed for casing, leaving an opening for inserting elastic. Insert a length of elastic through casing. Cut elastic slightly smaller than waist. Sew ends of elastic together. Sew casing closed.
Weave in ends.

ok, so I just had a flash back to the 1960's...and I am loving. can't wait to make this skirt for all my nieces...but me first. thanks!

What a hoot. I've not had much success finding a crochet skirt pattern I like. This one may just be the one.
